Remember that last week in Florence Naomi also lost to Julia Mayr 6 - 1 6 - 0, giving what her own coach called a "totally bizarre and uncoordinated performance".
She was clearly playing much much better in Brescia. I don't know if some of the opponents there were not at there best but the fact is she went all the way to the title, and you don't do that playing as she has in the subsequent weeks.
To me, she clearly found some real form in Brescia, where she wasn't close to dropping a set against some pretty decent palyers, so it's all a bit strange.
Pavlovic's display of power tennis was really impressive today. Just like in her first round, she needed some games to get in there (2-4 down) when it started, Naomi just couldn't do anything. Cavaday's shots are good on clay, great angles with the lefty forehand, but she needs time to just open up the court and play the angles, but Irena's agressive hitting was just making her always on the defensive. "
On YouTube there's some highlights of her first-round match (well, a camera trained just on Naomi anyway) followed by a lengthy interview. She looks in decent shape with movement marginally better than last time I saw her, and sounded positive.
Thanks for finding this - it seems to have been done by someone who goes round the Italian Challengers/ITFs picking out random players to interview, but it's very good!

I was very shocked to see this result, I thought Florence might have been due to fatigue from 9 matches in Brescia but she's had enough time to recover now so that shouldn't have been an issue. However, Pavlovic made semi's and may have been flighting for a French q's wildcard so she might have really raised her game.
Nice interview with Naomi, it's good to see her looking in better shape and from the limited footage she seems to be really working on changing her gamestyle on the clay.

Hi! I'm the author of this video. I'm glad you appreciate it, but it's not correct to say I pick random players to interview. If you watch other interviews in my youtube channel, I always choose to interview interesting (promising) players in these challengers (ATP or ITF). For example, I interviewed Tomic (wc) and Del Bonis ( outsider finalist) at ATP Napoli challenger. I had chosen to interview Naomi, after her first round match, because I was impressed from her game and she was coming from a successful tournament in Brescia. She was unluck vs French girl, because Pavlovic played a perfect match (she looked like a top 50) and maybe Naomi was too "passive". Anyway, Pavlovic didn't continue her run too long: she played a bad match in semis vs n.1 Oprandi. If you are interested, I can post also some Anna Smith highlights from her first round match: she looks like less adapt to clay courts than Naomi
Very good interview. We see results and share opinions. But its great to hear players themselves putting some things into context and other things of interest. Good stuff

Hi Francesco, it's good to see you on here. I realised your choices probably weren't really random, just meant that they would appear so to a casual observer. It's really cool what you've done - I'm guessing that at tournaments like that, it's not that hard to get players to talk to you if you approach them in a fairly professional manner and then ask intelligent questions.
It would be great to see some Anna Smith highlights if you are able to post them.
