R1: 301 PLISKOVA, Kristyna (CZE) v 277 BROADY, Naomi (GBR)
R1: 351 CURTIS, Jade (GBR) v 339 MAEKAWA, Ayaka (JPN)
R1: 225 SOUTH, Melanie [6] (GBR) v Qualifier

Naomi gets a horrible draw again. If she can get past Pliskova (fortunately,  the not-so-good twin) the No 1 seed is likely to be her next opponent, while Jade and Mel could meet in R2.

Much as I am a believer in draws generally even themselves out in the long run, Naomi certainly doesn't seem to be having much luck recently.

Re Mel and Jade I'd be delighted if they both managed to come through to that potential R2 match up.

Naomi had a bad second set in her second round match last week when the draw did open up for her. On that form she will obviously struggle this week, but on her better form of the last few weeks this Pliskova twin should be beatable before she most likely has to play the numder 1 seed.

Decent draw for the other 2 though, a quarter final place for Mel would be great this week.

Good draw for Mel, just hope she doesn't struggle with the qualifier. She deserves to have a good run this week, as much as I want to see Jade getting some results I really want Mel to be confident for the Grass.

Tough for Naomi but she's more than capable of upsets with her game.

Jade blows it losing 67(4) 76(2) 60

Mel has drawn Erakovic. Nightmare and suddenly makes her draw very tough indeed.

ooo not liking that for Mel, especially as Erakovic is a good grass court player.

What's the deal with Erakovic? Why is drawing the lowest ranked qualifier a nightmare?

She has a protected ranking of 83, has fallen from a CH of 49 due to a series of injuries.

LOL - I hadn't seen your post when I added Mel's result, we posted almost simultaneously.
