Lisa beat Fran in 2 sets last week. Surely, she has just as many cylinders this week.
Granted, better than last week. But I still think Lisa is nowhere near her best level yet. She shouldn't really be dropping a set against Fran if firing on all cylinders.
Sorry, that's getting a bit cyclical for me.
First of all you partly give Fran less credit by saying Lisa is not firing on all cylinders and then use the fact that she loses a set to Fran as evidence of this
Lisa is indeed maybe not right back to her best but is possibly not that far off. Difficult to really know, even last year we just saw two or three sudden unexpected events from her. Anyway, I do think Fran has has a really good couple of weeks, moving on to a new level and to me that is a pretty impressive score this week vs Lisa.
For me Lisa was playing top 250 tennis at her best last year granted it was only for a short period of time and maybe her current playing level is going to be her long term average.
My opinion and clearly no one agrees with me is that Lisa is only playing to a top 500 level at the moment. I wasn't trying to downplay Fran's achievements because clearly she has had a great couple of weeks. I was just trying to give my perspective of where Lisa's game is at the moment.
I agree with you that Lisa is probably only playing top 500 level at the moment
Not sure I or anyone else suggested otherwise, just still thought it another strong performance by Fran, indeed a further step-up.
Re Lisa, what I don't know is what her best reasonable long term level is. Yes, she had a few decent wins last year ( although only one against a top 250 player ) and some reasonable performances in defeat.
Indeed, maybe was playing 250 level at her best. I'd reckon there are more than 500 current players that play 250 level at their best, but by definition most of these are not truly WR top 250 players. ( or even in many cases ever likely to become WR 250 players )
I think she is potentially a very good player and was pleased to see her relative breakthrough last year, but she needs now to build and consolidate.
