This is only the second singles title for a GB man so far this year, after Chris Eaton won Glasgow in week 2
That's down from 4 men's singles titles by the end of week 18 last year (3 ATPs from Muzza and Evo's Jersey Challenger win) and 7 by the end of week 18 in 2008 (2 ATPs from Muzza, back to back US Futures wins from Jamie B, almost back to back Futures wins from Josh and Bloomers' win in Sunderland), though if the reason for the drop is that players like Wardy (who could btw drop to GB no. 7 when his Sarasota points come off on Monday week unless he wins some matches there next week) and Baker are trying to play more Challengers than Futures these days, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Slabba obviously has proven before that he easily has the ability to be achieving this and more. But for whatever reasons seems to have had a very frustrating time since his comeback towards the end of last year and the results have appeared pretty disappointing.
Whatever has now clicked, yes hope it stays clicked and that it's onwards and upwards.
More on Slabba's win - this is his first title since the Lagos Future in Nigeria in December 2007 (which led to him being named ITF player of the month) and it was his first Final since Falun, Sweden in Sep 2008 (the mo th before his career high of 266) when, believe it or not, he beat his opponent in the Final today in the semis to get there!

Great stuff, good to see him back in winning ways.
Hopefully he'll have a decent chance of going deep in Newcastle this week too though the field is a little tougher with Niland (wr: 225) and Bournemouth winner Prodron (wr: 302) entered.
Not sure what his plans are for the grass, he's entered a hard court futures in Spain the week before Nottingham, so not sure whether this is part of a series of tournaments out there or a one-off.
I'm guessing its hard to judge as he'd definately make the Nottingham qualies if he goes for it but getting a Queens qualies wildcard the next week is very unlikely.
Will be interesting to see if he gets a direct wildcard to Wimbledon qualifying as a player who can definately do real damage on grass.....or if he has to go through the pre-qualifying tournament
