So with 6 ranked to make R16 we have 8 players, with a possible 9 in the last 16

Only player losing to a lower ranked was Willis, but Carpenter, Broady and Slabinsky all beat higer opponents.

If you go by rankings we should have 2 QF'ists

Strange report on the LTA site today at http://www.lta.org.uk/News/All-news-items/2010-05-03/Eight-British-men-reach-second-round-in-Edinburgh/

"Jack Carpenter faced the sternest test of the day in beating fellow Briton Marcus Willis 6-1 2-6 7-6 (2) to set up a second round clash with the Italian No.6 seed Claudio Grassi."

Surely facing Burquier (Slabba) and Nacho Coll (Liam) were much sterner tests?

Maybe they meant something along the lines of the most epic game being that game

Some results from edinburgh.

Alex Ward beat Josh Goodall 11-9 tie break in the final set.
Slabba beat O'Brian in straight sets.
Cox won a strange match against Liam Broady 6-1 2-6 6-0. He had too much power off the ground but I have no idea what happened in the second set!

Not so good:

Illingworth lost to Barry King in 3 sets having been 1 set up.
Ashley Hewitt lost in straight sets to Eysseric.
Carpenter was a set and a break down to Grassi.

Other matches still in progress but Sadecky was a set up on Mc Gee.

QF: Updated

Alexander WARD (GBR) WR 608 vs Claudio GRASSI (ITA) (6) WR 449

(Q) Julien OBRY (FRA) WR 1012 vs Daniel COX (GBR) WR 554

Colin O'Brien (IRL) WR 671 vs Alexander SLABINSKY (GBR) WR 677

Jonathan EYSSERIC (FRA) (8) WR 487 vs Alexander SADECKY (SUI) (2) WR 342

Hopefully Wardy can give uspset Grassi, and you would hope Slabba would reach the SF

If Cox is playing Rodrigues i wouldn't hold out for him causing an upset

We should be looking at 1 hopefully 2 semi-finalists

Edited to reflect the outcome of the Rodrigues(6)/Obry (Q) match, which Obry won by 2 & 1! wink Even so, Coxy has to be in with a chance of making the SF... pray.gif

Disappointing from Liam, probably tells us that yesterdays outstanding result was more to do with his opponents injury status than Liams great play.

clayfan, have you seen much of Slabba's matches over the past few days ? How do you think he's playing especially on clay ? I haven't watched any of his matches for some time so would be interested to know

Just noticed 4th seed rodrigues is out! So hopefully Coxy can get a win and Wardy's opponent Grassi hasn't been in great form, think his last 16 run last week was his best tournament so far this year, which dosn't say much.

Would be great to have a guranteed finalist if both guys win
