Week 17 - ATP Masters 1000 - Rome

Draw out :  http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/416/mds.pdf

Not too bad really for an Andy on form.  Question really is how good is Andy going to be to get to any of the particular stages.

Last 32 :  Seppi or Fognini

Last 16 :  Winner of Ferrer or Korolev  v  Qualifier or Starace

QF  :   Seeds  Tsonga and Ferrero

SF :   Seeds Djokovic ( plus Youzhny in his part )  and Verdasco ( plus Isner ) .

Federer and Nadal in the other half.

Can see Ferrer knocking Murray out

If he wins that tho, can easily make SF

Yes, after a decent L32 draw, L16 is not the best, considering the alternatives to Ferrer from the seeds 13 to 16 that Andy could have been seeded to play were Isner, Querrey and Monaco  hmm.gif

R2 :   Andy Murray  WR 5  v  Andreas Seppi ( ITA )  WR 47

Scheduled on Center Court for Tuesday night, not before 8.30 pm ( 7.30 pm BST ).

We wait, we wonder, can a week's training in Barcelona have made a significant difference ?  Will an a least partly renewed Andy appear ?

Past records may not be too relevant here.  I think the locals may sense blood  hmm.gif

Just can't see Andy winning this one unless something has dramatically changed in the last couple of weeks.

Seppi's not really as good as Kohlschreiber, but then again Andy was so bad against Kohlschreiber, as you say things will really need to have changed in some ways.

I don't know, maybe.  Andy's a bit of a mystery at the moment including evidently to himself.  Needles to say, I was far from really convinced when I ticked him in the pickem for getting through this round, something I didn't repeat for the following round when the name Ferrer appeared on the horizon  hmm.gif

Looking at the number of matches earlier, I reckon it should start on time.

Just drizzle at the moment, and they are playing through it. Well, Almagro and Kubot are - there don't seem to be any other matches on; on the main court, the Djokovic match just finished and they don't seem in any hurry to bring Fed out in the rain.

I felt exactly the same way. I can't predict for him in Pick'em anymore! Normally, I'd feel pretty confident about having him to reach the later rounds, but given his recent form... If I pick him to go far, I feel dubious because I have no idea if/when he's going to pull his socks up on this recent slump... but if I pick him to go out in his first match it just goes against my every instinct of having picked Andy to go far in pretty much every tourny since 2008. Under usual circumstances, picking Andy to go out in his first round would seem like a pretty risky pick, so my instincts really fight against it.

As a result, I did what you did, hoping he would get his act together, and picked him to win this match... however I then chickened out of having him reach the tail end of the tournament, just in case he hasn't got it together yet, and so had him reaching the quarters and losing to Ferrer! My dad picked him to go a round further than I did, but then go out.

The past few matches have been horrible to watch - I hope playing an Italian in front of a loud crowd will rekindle Andy's competitive spirit.
