What does this mean for next week's qualifying? Does she automatically get a special exemption, is it at the organisers discretion, or does that not apply unless she makes the final?
Here's an extract from the ITF Women's circuit regulations:
i) Special Exempt
A player competing on the day that the qualifying competition begins in another Qualified Tournament and who applies for and receives exemption from qualifying as hereinafter provided.
For entered players a Qualified Tournament is:
- For $50,000 tournaments: the singles event of any ITF Women's Circuit tournament with prize money of $50,000 or higher or any WTA Tour tournament within the same continent in the preceding week;
Players eligible to and who wish to apply for Special Exempt status must do so by personally notifying the ITF Supervisor, either verbally or in writing, prior to the Qualifying Sign-In deadline.
Qualifying in Charlottesville starts on Sunday and the sign-in deadline in Saturday 18.00. Therefore, if she's playing on Sunday (either by reaching the final or by delay due to tornado), she should qualify for an SE. She just needs to apply.
If however, she loses tomorrow, she needs to get to Charlottesville in a hurry in order to meet the sign-in deadline.
Congrats to Laura on an excellent win. Very happy to see that she obviously has confidence in her rested wrist but if she can't make next week's tournament, that might not be such a bad thing at this stage of recovery.
Distance from Dothan to Charlottesville as the crow flies is apparently 617 miles
The good news is that she's on the Stadium court today. Matches start at 11.00 local time and she's on after the completion of the Spears v Hampton match (3-1 in the third), so should be on around 11.30.
Therefore, assuming she doesn't win, she'll need a really fast crow to get to Charlottesville by 18.00.
There is a slight cloud on the horizon or rather potential thunderstorms. Today's forecast for Dothan :
Cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...Then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs around 82. Some thunderstorms May be severe in the afternoon. South winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
Saturday night is :
Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows around 67. Some thunderstorms May be severe. South winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent
I guess being on early Laura might beat the weather. As per SMC's post though if she is still playing Sunday for whatever reason she may get a SE. If she loses in a delayed match later today it would seem that that's just tough cookie. Though does look kind of tight to put it mildly even if she were to lose without delay.

Mother nature is one kranky lady lately. It would be ironic if Lauras match is moved elsewhere now that shes on the televised court....I do hope that we get to see her. And i would like her to get a SE but if not perhaps it is for the best and she can rest. How long until her junior G1 on clay? I remember that having a stream last year so it would be great to see if her improvements are obvious on red clay.
I would doubt Laura's match will be moved since her's is scheduled first after the completion of the Spears v Hampton QF, which is only likely to take half an hour at most.
The other scheduled matches are the other semi involving the Spears / Hampton winner and a doubles semi involving Gallovits, neither of which one can see taking the place of the Laura v Gallovits semi.
So hopefully will be OK though having witnessed mad weather related scheduling at the mighty US Open who knows what could happen here.
Hopefully will remain on Stadium Court OK

Hopefully still well reasoned I edited it with the other match details I think after your post.
Yes, the unfinished quarter final ( Spears 3 - 1 up in the third set ) is due to start 17.00 BST so I'd guess any time from about 17.30 weather permitting.

No, they are showing continuous weather radar instead. If you live in the area and need to get out of the way of tornadoes I guess it's a bit more important than the tennis. But it does show all the storms are orbiting around Dothan at some distance so the matches should go ahead.

The tournament you are referring to is I think the Trofeo Bonfiglio in Milan, one of the top grade A tournaments. It runs from May 17th-23rd and last year you could view a stream via the website of the Italian tennis channel supertennis.tv
