I hope you're kidding, or thats a terrible basis for a professional decision. Glad the LTAs funding is getting him back in time for the footie! Wonder if his priorities would be different if the flight money came out his own pocket?

You might need to elaborate on that wishy-washy criticism of yours. My posts were made on the basis that Goodall chose to be home to watch Chelsea. As with any profession, sacrifice is expected and necessary to progress and if a player isnt happy to make such sacrifices then I fully support the decision to dedicate funding to those who are happy to do so. Of course if I have missed a joke or have misinterpreted something then I will offer my apologies.
If my opinion upsets you, feel free to question me directly, cheers.

There is certainly a lot of support for British players on this forum. Occasionally a few criticisms too. It would be pretty boring if we cheered mindlessly all the time.
In Josh's case it is very frustrating. An excellent junior with much talent, he has really lost his way in the last year. Since the Davis Cup match against the Ukraine in fact, although he has had injury or illness last year. He did not look in very good shape when I saw him play in January. I wonder if he is training very hard.
Sadly it does not suprise me that he is organising his schedule to suit his other interests. If he is indeed doing that. Normally I would applaud players supporting British tournaments, but in Yoshi's case clay is not his best surface. Perhaps it does his game good to play a few tournaments on it but it would be better at this stage of his career to pick faster surfaces. He is also entered for Edinburgh the following week but it was only his second choice. If he slips any more down the rankings 10K Futures may appear more commonly in his schedule!
To be fair to Josh, he did very well this week (well relative to the other Brits anyway) and in the last pic I saw of him (on the Baton Rogue site, I think), he looked in better shape than he did a few months earlier. I still haven't worked out if the Chelsea comment was serious or just a wind-up anyway, I originally assumed it was a joke.

maybe as josh isn't getting the higher funding he has decided best to head home where the costs should be lower, playing futures will hopefully mean he can get back to winning ways, i dont think josh is the type of player who can suddenly find form at a challenger and getting a bunch of wins under his belt will surely be of benefit going into the grass season.
JL i thought the American challengers were hard ct so far, the clay ones start soon?

aha. Thanks everyone. I think the main point is that its not exactly the clay of Roland Garros so surface wise it may not be that much of a jump for his style.
Look at Roddick and Querrey in Houston over the past few years.
