Even though the 1995 boys had a successful year with 4 in or around the Tennis Europe top 10 the category 1 titles eluded them. During the past two weeks over the Easter holidays there have been two such events with British success at last.
The first week in Livorno, Italy, had a strong field, but Joshua Sapwell beat a couple of top ten ranked boys to reach the final, losing out to a third, Andre Biro of Hungary. Alex Sendegeya also had a good win over the second seed.
The field in the second week, held in Maia, Portugal was weaker, and Peter Ashley took full advantage to claim the title, beating Joshua 1-6 6-1 6-3 in the semis. Alice Keddie reached the semis of the girls event, and makes her ITF debut in Nottingham on Tuesday.
