RE: Week 15 - ITF ($25K) - Osprey, USA - Clay

Yes, apparently very nervous in the first set !

Anyway I read that the Canary Islands are off the coast of Spain.  Flight takes a  heck of a time then  smile

I guess it's a bit like Hawaii being just off the coast of California!

That's not great - but it is clay.

Laura lost 6-0, 6-4. Strange she's had 2 6-0 sets against and 1 for in the last 2 matches, especially as it's on clay.

I think we have to be patient with Laura. She has hardly been able to practice over the last 10 weeks due to the wrist injury and remember Andy took quite a while to regain his best form following his wrist injury back in 2008. At this stage in her career even when fully fit Laura's form can change dramatically week to week so the bagel sets are something we are going to have get used to. I do also believe she is under a huge amount of pressure bacause expectations are so high and when you are not 100% match tight due to the injury layoff these disappointing scorelines are more likely to occur.
I think the key to Laura's progress over the next several years is going to be her physical wellbeing. She needs to get much stronger physicially to prevent the type of injuries she has already had which are inhibiting her progress.

Laura & partner at least managed a win in the doubles:

QF:  Ana-Clara Duarte & Melanie Klaffner (BRA/AUT) WR 609 lost to (2) Laura Robson  & Anastasia Yakimova (BLR) WR 306 by 6-2 3-6 [7-10] smile

SF:  Madison Brengle & Asia Muhamed (USA/USA) WR 745 vs (2) Laura Robson  & Anastasia Yakimova (BLR)

*  Brengle & Muhamed put out the third seeds, Cravero & Mircic (WR 349), in the QF!

Shame about the singles, but if they win the doubles Laura would be top 100 on this week's rankings - I haven't checked for the effects of movement in the rankings other players around her.

Definite tank in the doubles semis as Laura needs to be in Alabama on Sunday for qualies and the final of the doubles is also scheduled for Sunday.

They lost 6-2 6-0
