I've got at the back of my mind that in one of the Grand Slams the qualifying draw is 128 women ( 16 qualifiers ) and for the rest 96 women ( 12 qualifiers ) but, assuming this is the case, i don't know which is the 128 women draw.
Clearly better chance of getting into French qualifiers if it is the 128 women draw.
The women's qualifying draw at RG is a 96 draw.
The initial qualifying cut last year was 201 and the eventual last in was Sophie Ferguson WR 210, which suggests that even a QF here would not be enough - not that we ever expected Heather to be anywhere near making the cut in the first place, of course.

Yes, it's great to look at possibilities. Certainly with a good draw the 40 additional points for reaching the L32 is very possible, but who knows...
Disagree by one point, being pernickety 82 + 15 + 12 = 109 points ( edit, ah, do you get the one point for 1st Round main draw as well in WTA ( Premier ) events ? )
Re RBBOT's point, surely she needs 3 main draw wins at least, i.e. reach the quarter finals to get into Roland Garros qualifiers. I would have thought the required mark would have been well under 270th place in the rankings. Or is it quite a bit higher for the French Open ?

Not sure! I got Heather's points from here where it says she has 83 points. http://www.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=17302792&postcount=5

I think that must be wrong - she was shown on the WTA list as having 82 points last Monday http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/page/RankingsNSingles/0,,12781~0~70,00.html and she has 1 (for qualifying) + 14 (for reaching the QFs) to add for the week just finishing + 12 so far for the week about to start, all of which will be added on Monday week.
TBE's rankings on tennisforum are sometimes a point or a ranking position or two wrong, though it's a fabulous source and I don't know how he manages it - I have enough trouble keeping up with the 50 Brits on my tables, and I'm not immune to being the odd ranking point out either, albeit usually not for long!

She's not on Monday's OOP which rules out the two spots against non-seeded main draw players. Therefore, it's a seed or another qualifier, with the odds 2:1 in favour of the later.
As for top 300, Laura is only 15 points away too - if things go well we could have the top 10 GB players inside 300 after these tournaments.

The one thing in Heather's favour is that she has played a lot of games on clay recently so should be used to the speed of the courts by now, whereas this is Vesnina's first clay tournament of the year. I'm clutching at straws though.

Both clutching at non-existent straws unfortunately - Vesnina won 3 matches on clay this week, reaching the Ponte Vedra semis and taking Wozniacki (who won the title) to 3 sets when she got there.

The only straw left to clutch on is the hope that Vesnina is mentally scarred in some way from her choke to Wozniacki yesterday. I hope Heather can just stay with Vesnina and keep it close because she really is prone to breaking down.

Today, I made a point of watching, in its entirety, the qualifying match between Heather Watson and Zarina Ziyas. Watson won, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1; the twists and turns within the 2-hour and 19-minute match were many and interesting. A word about Diyas: Strong on both sides, she is as aggressive a player as you will see. She took balls out of the air that most players would let bounce, and if Watson even thought about hitting a ball, Diyas was on it. It was a pleasure to see a young player rushing the net so much, and working so hard to take control of points.
The first set was close, with seven breaks of serve, ending with some good strategic play by Watson. In the second set, Diyas dominated Watson at every turn, repeatedly finding corners in the deuce court. At this point, most of Diyas's errors were "good" errors--a few shots gone wrong as she went for lines and corners. At the beginning of the third set, when she went up a break, it looked as though Diyas's dominance would continue. Watson, however, found her good serve again, and--just as important--she started taking the ball faster. She got a crucial break when Diyas served at 1-2, and the roles reversed. Diyas became more tentative and made more errors.
A funny thing happened during the first set. A ball bounced off of Diyas's racquet and went into the stands. It then bounced off a seat, hit a lower-tiered seat, and bounced back into the court.
