Among other very good results she won a 25K in Germany last year while still 15 and a couple of weeks later beat Kvitova ( CZE ) WR 35 ( in the Czech Republic ) in straight sets. She has also within the last 2 weeks gone to the semis of a 50K in Russia, although no particular scalps there, and has now as was said just beaten Karatantcheva (KAZ ) WR 142 7 - 6 7 - 5, who incidentally was WR 35 when herself aged 16 about four years ago and herself has had quite a few decent wins this year.
Though re thoughts about inconsistency of many young players earlier, it is difficult to really predict how this will go. We may have inconsistency squared
All I'd say is that Heather certainly has a chance here of making the main draw and making this another really good week and certainly better than I anticipated.

... and Diyas is another one! - she was born in Prague and played for the Czech Republic when she was a U14 junior - basically, the QR1 match that produced Hether's opponent featured the non-Russian half of this year's "Kazakh" Fed Cup team - the other half (Shvedova and Voskoboeva) were both born in Moscow.

In fact, upon further reasearch (google search.lol) i think she's a reversal of the other so called kazakhs. She was born in almaty, but has since moved to czech rep where she lives and trains.
Yeah, it's the other way around Steven! She was born in Kazakhstan but now lives and trains in Prague. It is said that she may change her nationality to Czech. She's a good player, but she's small and is a counterpuncher. I think Heather should look to just move her about a lot and make it completely physical. She has a good shot.
But a great result for Heather and her first top 200 win on clay! Hopefully she can qualify now. The draw has come out and there are a few nice spots that she could take advantage of. Cmon!

Yup.
And it is said that Kazakhstan Tennis Federation bought a lot of players and they are all in contracts to the Federation. These names include Karantantcheva, top 50 player Shvedova and ATP player Golubev.
Maybe we need to start doing that on the ATP side.

Oh yes, you're right, I read the rows wrong - however she did play for the Czech Republic in at least one U14 event. Good to see them trying to get their own back on the Kazakhs anyway!
