Just 2 qualifying rounds, 8 points for reaching the FQR and 12 points for qualifying.
Heather had to draw one of the 16 seeds in Q1 and Dzehalevich would appear to be one of the best she could have got.
According to her WTA activity, Dzehalevich has won only 3 of her last 16 matches with the best of these wins rankingswise a 6 -3 6 - 0 victory against our screetching friend Larcher De Brito, then WR 109, in Q1 of the Australian Open.

Good draw. But she's going to have to fly from Mississippi to South Carolina, and she's already played a lot over the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, this won't be a damp squib.
You almost wonder if she tanked against de Gubernatis to get here. Surely not though, the points for getting a round further this week would have been more than she's likely to get here.

Considering she withdrew from Osprey a couple of days ago, it seems like she had every intention of playing in Charleston. I don't know if she went out there and tanked, but she probably played it knowing that she wanted to be in Charleston.
It's not all about points, the opportunity of playing in a Premier WTA event would inevitably be much more appealing than playing in a 25k ITF

1-1 after 15 minutes play. This could be a looooong match. If it is, the mental side of things will come into play. Will the problems with our younger players have a bearing?

Heather I'd say generally manages pretty well in long games ( though she has had quite a schedule recently )
Don't know if you mean inconsistency but I don't think that's particular to our young players.

There was a discussion the other day (can't remember who the posters were) about younger players lacking mental toughness at times. Having said that, I also remember stats about Heather and her 3 set victories (that may have been your post Indy).
