L32: Adrián Menéndez (ESP) WR 190 vs (Q) Chris Eaton WR 403
Tough first round for Chris: first match on Court 6 tomorrow, 09.00 BST kick-off. He & Dominic will then play the fourth & final match on the centre court against the South African pair, Roelofse & Scholtz.
I'd make Eaton favourite though, M-M has done very little away from clay and as Spud said, Smetty beat him quite comfortably in Jersey. Probably as nice a draw as he could have hoped for in such a high level tournament.
A solid win for Chris against a guy ranked quite close to himself, as we know he can lose them to guys much lower and defends his 5 points from last year here.
Shame about Inglot, but was always going to be tough for him against Okun. I would presume a break each set.
I think this is the best draw Chris could have asked for tbh. When i watched Menendez on the stream against Smethy, I didnt think much of him and he seemed to just put the ball in court rather than force something, definitely a clay guy.
I think Chris will be licking his lips at this opportunity to make the 2nd round in this big torny. Im sure I'd say its probably 50/50 going into it, but wouldnt be surprised if Eaton took it as he also has had the benefit of 3 matches under his belt. Im sure Chris is loving this big tournament compared to the futures and lets hope his results here can show.
Well done to M/M in the dubs, I would think Dom/Chris would join them in the Quarters as they take on a WC pairing.
I see Chris did toy with folk by having a tiebreaker in his win, but the qualifiers did finish with no 3rd sets in any of the 28 qualifying matches and the top four seeds going through.
I did think Dom might be the one to spoil things, but unfortunately not to be, pity.
I agree Chris's draw isn't too bad at all. As been said, the great majority of M-M's good results have been on clay though he did win a future on outdoor hard last October.
