Ugh - that's 9/9 for Groth against Brits now and that's probably her best win against one of our girls. It also means that all four of our top five girls who were in action this week have gone out at least 2 rounds earlier than they were seeded to.
Elena is still provisionally up 1 at WR 58, but could be overtaken by Vinci if she beats Dulgheru or Parra-Santonja in the Barcelona semis tomorrow (Vinci took out no. 2 seed Rezai in R1 and has benefited from the other bottom half seeds getting wiped out early there too) and by Kerber if she beats Hantuchova in Charleston later today.

Groth is a very decent player, I remember being impressed when she played Serena in the Aussie Open. Still its dissapointing to see Bally lose, I think a lot of us fancied her for the title here and the points would have been very nice. All down to Laura to salvage the day
I watched Jarmila Groth at Wimbledon last year. She's a tidy player and I can also see what Sam Groth saw in her. Very beautful and personable with the crowd too.
Well whaddya know? Katie's conqueror, Bratchikova, has beaten Groth in three (Groth got 9 games to Katie's 17) to reach the final against Tanasugarn, having also beaten Dubois in straights in the quarters. Always nice to have context...
In another not-that-fair-but-that's-life tidbit, Jegiolka, who Naomi beat 1 and 2 in FQR got in as an LL and beat Kremer in R1, thereby bagging herself some tidy pointage. Gutted.

Bratchikova beat Tanasugarn in the Final in straight sets - only one player other than Katie took a set off her this week and Katie got closest to beating her. Seems like she might be playing ok after all!

I have been following the three girls tweets who took part in this tournament with interest as they try to get home.
Bally who finished the tournament last has made her way to Dubai and is hoping to get to Rome shortly. Katie is stuck in Joburg indefinitely and there are fears that Naomi has been kidnapped by the local militia in Nairobi as there has been no communication made since Friday.
