RE: Week 15 - ITF ($100K+H) - Johannesburg, RSA - Hard

Elena breaks to 30 in game 1 smile.gif Same as yesterday, but hopefully she'll start her own serve with a hold this time!

She did, but then got broken in her second service game. 3-3* and now 2 more bps for Elena.

Elena went a break up with her won 3-game winning streak, then lost it again as Wörle had another 3-game streak of her own. It's now *5-6, danger time.

Well, the tie-break was a lot more comfortable than the rest of the set. 7-6(1) smile

As we've seen so many times, important now to hold her first service game.

And to do it emphatically to love would be even better. smile

That's enough to add 20 points (i.e. she's now got 40 but her previous 16th best was 20) and puts her provisionally at WR 58, though she's overtakable this week and some way off WR 57.

Next up, (6) Jarmila Groth, whom she lost to in 3 sets in Lexington way back in 2004 when Groth was called Gajdosova (yes, it was one of the all-time great Brit-bashers, Sam Groth, she married last year ...) or Ksenia Lykina, whom she mullered 1 & 0 in Fukuoka last year.

Groth apparently beat Lykina by 2 & 2, so:

QF:  (1) Elena Baltacha WR 59 vs (6) Jamila Groth (AUS) WR 114

Let's hope she gets through that one with fewer wobbles... pray.gif

QF:  (WC) Katie O'Brien & Neuza Silva (POR) WR 1012 lost to (2) Oksana Kalashnikova & Andreja Klepac (GEO/SLO) WR 232 3 & 4 cry

A yawning rankings gap & no doubt Klashnikova borrowed her dad's/grandad's/uncle's/cousin's best AK 47 for the occasion, too! wink

Certainly Kalashnikova sounds a bit more fearsome than her partner, who is maybe more into paintball  biggrin

Groth is 8-0 v Brits, starting with the win against Elena the only other time they played and hubby Sam (they married last year) is, as most of you will be only too well aware, on a very long (15-match, I think) Brit-bashing streak.

I hope Bally will be the one to stunt this annoying Groth! furious

Elena on centre court again tomorrow, so should be covered by Bet365. Hopefully we'll see Bally dance her way to victory again. biggrin
