Don't know records re seeds but no 1 may not necessarily be too bad as a potential second round opponent since looks as if seeds will have a quite tight rankings spread.
I already had a strange feeling Laura's going to play Heather here. Laura v qualifier is part 1 of that. I'd be kinda worried about strange feelings coming true, so quite happy if this doesn't
Edit : I guess they could meet later. In the final would be nice

I suspect Laura's injury is tendonitus in the wrist. Having the wrist in a cast is the first form of treatment together with icing to the inflamed area can also be helpful. So we may be looking at an injury which may be more long term than short term. The fact that she is playing with a taping and is still icing the injury also points to this fact. I suppose as long as the pain is minimal and it doesn't affect her performances and the injury can be kept under control she should be OK.
Judging from Nik's post match tweets it sounds like a blowout victory by Heather. Nik was poor and Heather only needed to keep the ball on the court to prevail. Hopefully now Heather can avoid Laura.
It's got to happen sooner or later, as I'm sure they'll be playing a lot of the same tournies in the future. However, it would be much better if they met in the later stages of tournaments of course.
Laura drawn a real toughie in Hampton who I would make a solid favourite in that one. Heather has drawn the eighth seed Alvarez-Teran who retired in her last match and so offers Heather a great chance of progressing.
Hmm, yes I see that this year Hampton has twice come through qualifying to reach the finals of 25K tournaments, once on clay. In doing so she has beaten many much higher ranked players than herself and indeed than Laura's current ranking.
She beat Naomi Broady 6 - 1 6 - 4 on hard courts in the quarter finals in Hammond early last month.
So, it certainly looks a particularly tough qualifier to get and would be a very good victory to pull off, more particularly given the time Laura has been out.
I'm a bit confused ( well one of them is ) because Nik suggests in her twitter that it was 6 - 0 6 - 2 which ties in more with her also saying she took too long to get going
Edit : Confirmed on USTA site drawsheet as 6 - 0 6 - 2

Hampton is probably playing to at least a top 250 level this year and has shown better form this week on the green clay. Laura has to be rusty, not used to playing on this surface and there are major concerns over her wrist. I think if Laura is to win this it will be her pure class that will pull her through. I was happy when we avoided the Heather Laura matchup but Hampton was by far the hardest qualifier she could have got.

Heather obviously getting her wires slightly crossed there.
Yup, was glad to see she avoided Heather, then dismayed at the fact Laura had drawn (bar heather) the worst possible opponent. Anyway, we'll see how this one pans out.
As for Heather, this is a huge chance to make another QF against a player who is out of form, was injured and has lost to about 5 different Junior players inferior to Heather in the last 6 months. It all depends on whether she is ready for the 'clay'.

Nice and convincing so hopefully a sign that Laura's wrist is OK and maybe she is not as rusty as first thought. The USTA website had a glitch so there were no doubles results available until now when the ITF website finally got its act together.
