Hopefully Heather will get through to play her in the FQR. Tough because I'd like Nicola to be getting at least a ranking point out of this, but not really at Heather's expense.

Great win from Nik and how wrong I was about her not getting to play Heather. Heather seemed to be struggling a bit yesterday so an upset is on the cards.
As for Laura often icing an injury can be precautionary so it is possible she is going to play with her wrist strapped as at the Aussie open. Not sure thats wise but I'm sure her team wouldn't allow her to play unless the wrist was basically OK and nearly 100%.
Yes, I'd still prefer that when Laura first plays competitively again there isn't a "basically" or a "nearly". The wrist was strapped at the Australian Open before it was decided that she should take time out and have the wrist put into a cast to supposedly sort it.
Yes, I know many players play with niggles and stuff, but there is just no reason here to be taking chances with such a young talent with limited senior tournaments she can play this year anyway. And I do feel a wrist is a particular dodgy area to be taking any chances with.

I hope Laura's wrist is okay. I noticed her photo is currently on the USTA pro circuit homepage accompanying the "Latest draws and results" link, so it would ironic if she doesn't appear in it.

not necessarily - of the 18 main draw players, 12 have a doubles ranking of 250 or lower and several more in the 250-350 range. Although Laura has the highest ranking, if she plays with Heather, as is most likely, they would have a combined ranking of 550 which may be outside the seeds.
As expected Heather won at a canter 1 and 0 and now plays Nik for a place in the main draw. Awaiting the main singles draw which should come through shortly.
No draw out yet but the OOP has Heather and Nik first up and later on Heather and Laura playing doubles together so it looks as if the wrist injury hasn't been reaggravated but is something she is playing through.
They play LITVAK, Lena USA 248 / SALUT, Aranza ARG 341 (doubles rankings) who don't appear to have played together before. Given the doubles field here is much stronger than the singles field, that is a fairly good draw.
