The news re Roland Garros with Anne winning is that Katie currently stands 108 and Anne will be 109 when her win (confirmed) is added to the TennisForum table, with only a Halep title in Marbella capable of knocking them down in next week's rankings. Usually 110 or better makes the cut eventually.
Ah, just the one semi finalist. I had thought Anne would win and decent chance in the other two matches so hoped for at least two. The defeats in the other two matches were not to my mind too unexpected though the actual margins were.
Like for Anna, I hope Katie's opponent was on top form though even so for Katie that would mean she was still some way off her best, certainly in this match, after two slightly more promising wins. Tetreault is a good player who has improved significantly over the last year or so ( edit : and Jovanovski rather more relevantly is a potentially even better player, sorry for slight boo-boo in original ), but a Katie at her best I would never expect to be losing by that sort of margin unless in some way it was a really bad match-up for her. So it does look as if Katie still has quite a bit of work to do and I hope she can swing things round soon, because it's now a worryingly long spell of poorer form and we are aproaching some very important months.
I would anticipate Anne beating Marino, though she will probably have to play pretty well as Marino would appear to be in very good form unless Anna played unexpectedly really poorly in comparison te her recent form ( or as jb288 said maybe clash of styles and / or fatigue influenced things there ). One never can really tell how players have performed from a bare scoreline.

It's interesting because if Anne made the cut for RG is it possible she could use her protected ranking for both Wimbledon and the USO?
RE: Katie's loss, the score is indeed shocking but Jovanovski is a rising star on the WTA and a great player so I don't think the actual result was ever in doubt.

Oops, got myself confused in last post, Katie did indeed lose to Jovanovski, not Tetreault who Anne beat
I'd say a bit of a thumping from Jovanovski, while still pretty bad, is less of a shock than it would have been from Tetreault since Javanovski is quite a bit younger and more on the rise so one isn't quite so sure about what she is capable of.

Main draw grand slam cut-off is always 6 weeks before - ie next Monday's rankings for Roland Garros. Anne can only use her special ranking once in a Grand Slam, but now has a good chance of being a direct entry to Wimbledon before her Warsaw points drop off.
Play starts at 4pm BST tomorrow with Anne on second
I think Jovanovski is a top 100 player but not top 50 so the scoreline is indeed far more onesided than I would have expected. Probably 2 steps forward 1 step back this week for Katie.
As for Anne probably playing top 100 tennis but not back to her best and IMO has a great chance of winning the title. Should beat Marino but as Indy eluded to Marino appears to be in inspired form this week. Final would be more difficult but still well within her capabilities.
Actually, Phil, you overegg what I said about Marino. Quote : "I would anticipate Anne beating Marino, though she will probably have to play pretty well as Marino would appear to be in very good form unless Anna played unexpectedly really poorly in comparison te her recent form" That doesn't allude to "appears to be in inspired form this week". I try to write what I mean.
If you yourself think she's Marino is in inspired form this week, that's fair enough, although not a word ( or implication ) that I would have used and didn't use.
So yes just based on her match with Anna she looks in very good form unless Anna played very poorly. You yourself immediately described it as a poor performance from Anna. I am afraid I generally simply find it impossible to make such instant definitive judgements on one player's performance and / or her progress as as you quite often make based on one scoreline.
As to the week as a whole, Marino would appear to have started really quite slowly, beating a Belgian WC ranked 758 in the world 7-6 in the 3rd and then Bovina of Russia WR 169 7 - 5 in the 3rd ( though Bovina had beaten Bychkova the no 2 seed in straight sets in R1 )
She seems to be as I said in very good form ( and now that I've looked more at her first two matches, as far as this week is concerned, that's really based on just her last match ) and I think Anne will probably have to play pretty well to beat her.
Sorry for rambling on folk ( as I do at too much length at times ), but I hope a little clarification ( for Phil anyway since he seems to quite like occasionally alluding to my thoughts and more than once has alluded fairly incorrectly ).
I like the enthusiasm for tennis, and more particularly the GB players' progress, that I feel comes across in your posts, Phil, but please if you wish to allude to my thoughts do it more carefully, thanks.
Anyway, hope Anna can play well and beat off Marino whatever form she is in

Oh pipe down for goodness sake. No harm will come from the suggestion that you stated her form to be 'very good' rather than inspired, especially since form can change dramatically from match to match anyway.
Perhaps not taking yourself so seriously would prevent more tiresome rambles in the future.

I am sorry Indiana about not getting the gist of your posts. I suppose in the future the best thing to do is not refer to your posts and then no misunderstandings will ensue.
