Katie won 6-3 6-1. Much easier than I expected so hopefully a sign she is near her best and with a few more wins the confidence will come back as well.
Clearly Katie feels much more at home at this level which means her ranking shouldn't do a Mel.
I would like to see her really bullding on this, I'd say she's got quite a bit to do yet before we can start to really think she's back to near her best.
I've no idea how much recently has been confidence and how much technical, though with Katie I am sure confidence is involved. So to an extent wins ( plural ) may breed confidence may breed more wins, hopefully so.
It would be a really good sign to see her going deep in this tournament.

Yep with reference to Katie being 'back to near her best' I emphasise the words hopefully and a sign. I agree with you Indy that you would need to see a complete tournament performance before being sure she was 'back to her best'.
Don't know how much one can make of Anna's match but Pervak did appear and Anna whipped her 6 - 1 in the first set so I doubt was playing too badly.
Anyway, that's now a 25 / 8 win loss record for the year and including Pervak now a 3 / 2 record against top 200 players ( actually 3 / 1 against top 150 players ).
Her form this year has been a delightful surprise and huge credit to her. Of course she's going to go to yet another CH next Monday, has now overtaken Georgie Stoop to be GB no 7 and is just another win away from overtaking Naomi Broady to be GB no 6.
Anna has gone from the late show to early bird, which seems rather unfair. She's on first at 9am BST. Katie is 3rd match on court 1 while Anne takes the late slot (7th on centre).
Anna's win, removing Pervak from the equation, could well help Katie (and possibly Anne) win places in the French Open as direct entries (next week's rankings are used, and there are not many players left who can overtake Katie).
Yes, does seem rather unkind putting Anna on so early, although luckily her R1 match won't have taken too much out of her.
Anyway, Zanevska may be ranked 548, but she's just 16 yo so in the early stages of her climb to much greater things. Beating the WR 171 Bratchikova ( RUS ) 6 - 1 6 -2 in R1 suggests she has real talent.
Can do without too many 16 yo prodigies in the women's game
I see that the other seed in Anna's quarter, the no 2 seed Bychkova ( RUS ) has been beaten by her fellow Russian Bovina so no seeds now left in Anna' s quarter.
Given Bychkova is WR 111 her defeat is also possible helpful news re Roland Garros direct entries.
