RE: Week 14 - ITF ($50K) - Torhout, Belgium (Indoor Hard)

According to her own personal twitter Tara is in great pain. Hopefully no serious injury.

So the kind of expected FQR match up between Anna and Vrljic.

Seemed to me a decent score by Lisa  and she confirms in her twitter :  "lost 5-7 2-6 played a good match though..need a few more matches under my belt!!"  I get the impression she's not far off her late 2009 form and as she says the more matches now the better.

Clear win for Anna over Tara although 6 - 2  6 - 2 scorelines sometimes have more of a fight going on then maybe folk at first think.  I hope Tara will be OK with whatever the problem is.  I'm presuming she does mean physical "pain".

Anyway, tough FQR which will hopefully reflect Anna's progress since they last met.

All deduced from tomorrow's OoP:

FQR: (q7) Anna Smith WR 350 beat (q3) Anna Vrljic (CRO) WR 300 by tba smile.gif

... and switching to 5 April rankings:

L32: (6) Anne Keothavong WR 116 v (Q) Sofia Shapatava (GEO) WR 357 - n/b 11.00 BST on Centre
L32: (1) Katie O'Brien WR 105 v Eirini Georgatou (GRE) WR 246 - immediately after Anne on Centre
L32: (Q) Anna Smith WR 288 v (7) Ksenia Pervak (RUS) WR 119 - n/b 17.00 BST on Court 1

A tough draw for Anna, but she already has 6 points for qualifying. smile.gif

Wow, I knew Anna had the potential to be ranked higher, but this is incredible from her. clap.gif

Really tough draw, but Pervak lost to Elena Kulikova last month who is currently ranked outside of the top 400 and has a career high of 314, so there is hope for our new world number 288.

That's a really good win for Anna and good turnaround from her loss ito Vrljic in qualifying for Minsk at the beginning of March.

Another indication not just of the consistency of Anna this year but her evident continuing improvement  smile

Of course, Anna was actually ranked higher than Vrljic this morning, so I guess she was the favourite to win whichever way you looked at it! smile.gif

Yes, be pretty tough, and will be another real test of Anna's progress.  That loss to Kulikova is Pervak's second loss to a player outside the top 400 this year though she's had a quite a few victories over players well inside the top 200.

Also on the positive side, given Anna would be due to meet a seed in one of the first two rounds and I would think Pervak would be one of the preferable ones ( without looking through the rest ) then it's not that bad for a march on the quarter finals here  smile

Pervak I thought was destined for the top100 but appears to lack that little something to make that final step and is probably struggling for a little bit of confidence as a result.

On current form I would guess that this matchup is probably easier than the Larsson match but one that is still just slightly beyond Anna. Hope I'm wrong and when your on the roll that Anna is anything is possible.

Solid win for Anne.
I see that there have been no updates to her website since Miami. Strange because that is usually updated on a regular basis.

Katie was 3-1 up but has been quickly been pegged back to 3-3.
