RE: Week 12 - WTA ($4.5M) - Miami, USA Premier Hard

Typical Bally time after time she wins the mental battle in these closely fought matches.
Could she draw Heather in the first round.

Katie lost    6 - 4  6 - 2

Looks as if it was competitive most of the time but she dropped away at the end.

Yep a better effort from Katie this week playing at a top150 level but nowhere near good enough to maintain her ranking at the current level.

Qualifiers have been placed

Bally plays Iveta Benesova (CZE), who she narrowly beat to take the Torhout 75K title in 2008. Benesova has spent quite a lot of time in the top 50, but has dropped out after recent poor form

Heather plays Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) who is in decent form having thrashed the hot Shuai Zhang last week

Anne is second on court 3 followed by Heather
Bally plays the last match on court 2 (not before 9pm GMT)

When looking at the draw before qualifiers had been placed I was thinking that in terms of getting relatively deep in the tournament that the Benesova draw would've been up there as the best! Now do the work Bally :)

Sarah and Raquel the last DA's in the doubles draw, and have drawn wild cards Flipkens and Clijsters in the first round, who beat them 6-2 6-0 in Luxembourg last year.

Not bad draws for both of them.
Benesova a languid lefty who can make plenty of unforced errors and not the strongest mentally so Bally will definitely have an edge there. I would make Bally the marginal favourite.

Don't know much about Heather's opponent but appears to be in decent form although was beaten handily by Sophie Ferguson last week . I would be disappointed if Heather wasn't at least competitive in this match and would give her a 20% chance of success.

Hmm... No, I think it's quite a bad draw after the first round. Wickmayer is ruthless, and she doesn't often lose to players below her. That's exactly how she made the US semis last year. But we'll see, one match at a time, good luck Bally.

As for Heather... To be honest, ironically she pretty much got the short straw by facing a qualifier. Most of the qualifiers are so much better than the main draw players with byes and Tsveti is a very good player but I believe in Heather and i'm sure she is up for it. good luck HEATHER!!!

Good luck to Anne too. Good chance to pick up 50 points, hope she takes it.

A bit of extra edge too from the fact that she also beat Benesova to win the Torhout Final two years ago, when she was unseeded and Benesova was seeded 4 - that was a bit of a breakthrough at the time. Ironically, Wickmayer was seeded 8 there and went out in the QFs.

To be honest I don't hold much hope for Heather but I wish her the very best of luck. A win here would be massive in every way.

Good luck to Anne and Bally. Quite fancy Bally's chances of continuing her great season so far (so there's the kiss of death, sorry Bally).
