RE: Week 12 - WTA ($4.5M) - Miami, USA Premier Hard

Bally and Heather were speaking on BBC Five Live after Miami. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rkk6n/5_live_Sport_25_03_2010/ It's about 13 minutes in.

Condolences to Anne after some sad news - I'm a little surprised she played as well as she did under the circumstances...

Strange to hear Overend be so positive about British tennis for a change. Liked the way Bally was so adamant that she be picked ahead of Heather and Laura for the 2012 olympics. Also first time I have heard Nino speak and I felt he came across very well.

That was a really good listen and I agree with Phil that Overend came across better than I've heard him knowlegewise and positive / realistic wise.

Re the Olympics bit, yes I did love how Elena didn't take kindly to the thought she might be overtaken for London by Heather and Laura and maybe not make it.

Curious comment from Overend about home ground not really helping Canada in the Winter Olympics so maybe a double edged sword.  They had a slowish start in the first 2 or 3 days, but then the medals came pouring in in to the extent that they topped the medal table ( in terms of golds ) with the most golds ever by any competing nation in a Winter Olympics ( last bit slightly spurious since more events than ever before ).  I did think the home crowds helped that.

I would generally say that home ground is a huge advantage. The only disadvantage being the excessive pressure put on a selected few might be too much for one or two. I recollect from Sydney the huge pressure put on Kathy Freeman which she just about overcame but hardly raced afterwards and in Beijing the 110 m hurdler who competed but clearly was nowhere near 100% fit.
