Bally survived a long game to get on the board at 1-6 1-2* Sarah/Raquel had a bp for 5-3 which they couldn't convert then Raquel went 40-30 from 0-30 but lost the next 2 points, so the Belgians will serve for the match at 5-4
havent been here for a day so just catching up on the matches already completed. Regardng Heather, Pironkova was always going to be tough, she's a great player (her biggest scalps include Venus at the Aus Open in 06 and Ivanovic in Rome 08 just before she won the French) and although she had been struggling, she seems to have regained form in the last few weeks. As I said before, the qualiefiers looked even tougher than many of the MD players to me so not a bad effort at all from Heather. She plays next in Jackson on April the 5th I think and Laura is on the list too.
As for her, no doubt that news affected her. Hopefully she cannow go back home and wait until she's ready to play again.
They had their chances but great effort from Sarah/Kops-Jones. Certainly not just making up the numbers. Hopefully they can continue to push on.
And i'm glad Bally is doing herself justice in this match.

Overall a slightly disappointing display by Bally. It just goes to show the difference between a top 20 and 60 player. My pre match prediction for the scoreline would have been a 6-4 6-4 loss. Still another good tournament for Bally but it probably provides further proof that anything higher than a top 40 ranking for Bally is most unlikely.
Bally still learning at this level hopefully she can sustain her run I never expected her to beat the Belgian but Bally in my opinion can get inside top 40 she definitely wants it herself
Good positive reaction from Bally folllowing the match. It appears that Wickmayer played exceptionally well and that the scoreline didn't do Bally justice.
Good to hear Bally staying so positive, and Wickmayer certainly can really turn it on at times and trounce much higher ranked players than her.
From the overall scoreboard stats, it does look that Wickmayer was a pretty clear winner.
The 6 -1 6 -3 scoreline I would never take by itself at as telling all, as I have known occasional pretty epic battles with scorelines not that far off that and in some ways more comfortable 6 -4 6 -4 matches.
But it is certainly a reasonable pointer, and combined with Wickmayer winning overall points by 66 to 41, BPs won 5 / 11 to 1 / 4 and 46 points playerd on Wickmayer's serve to 61 on Bally's ( from same no of service games ), Wickmayer looks to me a fairly clear and well deserved winner.
It's another good week for Bally though, a further climb up the rankings and the more matches like this she gets the better. I get the impression she just wants more and more of this, she really has a desire to play in higher echelons.
