De Fays did indeed manage to beat Groth 6-3 7-6. However the good news is that Pauffley beat 6th seed Klaasen 6-4 7-6 so will face Milton tomorrow in the final round.
That is good news and more than makes up for Eaton's bad loss, since this one actually ensures we will have a qualifier. Well done to both Neil and Josh!

However with only Eaton seeded to reach the FQR and no Brit seed to actually qualify, to have Milton, Pauffley and Golding through to the FQR and a guaranteed qualifier makes it to my mind a pretty decent day overall.
No idea how to found the answer but I wonder if this is the first time someone has won two professional matches in the same day both by retirement? It certainly can't have happened very often.

That's about as likely as us failing to beat a country like Lithuania in Davis Cup.
Oops ...
Seriously, you're right, it's not inconceivable that we would fail to get anyone into R2, but in a home Challenger where we had the winner last year, it would be very disappointing not to get three through - Boggo, Wardy and one of the others upsetting the rankings, e.g. Dom sticking it to Roko again.
