Picking up on Johnnylad's post on the Tallahassee thread, the YTD columns on the T25 tables makes it easy to compare YTD points scored in 2009 and 2010.

Bear in mind that you get slightly more points for reaching the later rounds in lower level events this year but there have been less of them so they have been stronger - the fact that players have still been hitting lots of new marginal CHs without gaining points suggests that overall points have been slightly harder to come by this year.

The general impression has been that the first two months of 2010 were pretty good (at least compared to a dire period 12 months earlier) but the last two months have been awful, and I think that's fair enough, but have things been better or worse so far this year overall?

2009 - top 10 GB points scorers in the first 16 weeks (no of events played in brackets)

2980 Muzza (7)
92 Evo (7)
74 Boggo (9)
35 Flembo (9 singles events in w1-w16 2009 cf only 2 in 2010)
29 Josh (9)
28 Bloomers (8 cf only 4 in 2010 due to injury)
28 Cox (10 cf only 5 in 2010 - injury?)
18 Marray (8 cf just Sao Paulo Ch Q in wk 1 in 2010)
13 Wardy (10)
13 Slabba (10 cf 11 in 2009)

Total ATP points for Brits in the first 16 weeks of 2009 ex-Muzza: 405

2010 - top 10 GB points scorers in the first 16 weeks (no of events played in brackets)

1435 Muzza (5) - i.e. less than half of last year despite the slam Final
76 Boggo (7) - marginally up on last year and up a handful of ranking places as a result
39 Josh (11) - the same as last year plus this week's 10 points
37 Eaton (10) - much better than last year
33 Wardy (10) - much better than last year
32 Smethurst (8) - much better than last year
27 Jamie B (7) - much better than last year
24 Evo (9) - much worse than last year - the Jersey effect
22 Wardinator (8) - much better than last year
18 Inglot (9) - much better than last year

Total ATP points for Brits in the first 16 weeks of 2010 ex-Muzza: 386

So, quite a few Brits have done a lot better than they did in the first four months of last year, but Flembo, Cox, Bloomers, Marray and Slabba haven't even come close to making this list this year, due to two of them two due to concentrating on doubles, one (or two, not sure about Cox) being injured and Slabba having one good week in New Caledonia last year and none this year, though actually he has scored more consistently this year.

Overall excluding Muzza, the GB men have scored 5% less points than in the first 16 weeks of last year, but they are doing significantly better than last year outside the UK and if you take out just one week (the disaster in Jersey, 17 points this year c.f. 118 last year), they are nearly 30% up.

The rankings provide a mixed message too (see http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/stats/mv-m.htm?n=1 ) - there have been 34 positive changes to just 19 negative changes (but 14 of the +ve changes are less than 1% and they are probably all due to players going up without any increase in their points total) and 13 Brits are 5% or more closer to the top of the rankings than they were before c.f. 11 who are 5% or more further away, but of those, 8 of them are up 10% or more c.f. 10 last year.

Edit: edited in events played as requested by the Count below.

Steven, I've been trying to complie a sort of current form guide (in the style of football teams WLDDWD form guide) using the smileys from the T25 tables, and covering the last 6 tournaments entered. For example, (and using wrong smileys because I can't use the ones from the T25 table) Boggo's last 3 would look something like this:

 blankstare redface.gif no.gif.

However, I can't get the smileys onto the posts. Do you have a secret stash of bitmaps you can send via email, or can they just not be applied to these posts.

That sounds like a good idea. You can apply the T25 table smileys to these posts, but not as easily as using the default icons that the forum provides - I've got them into this post by clicking the insert image button and typing in the locations of the pics and you should now be able to use each one by clicking it, copying Ctrl-C and pasting Ctrl-V into another post - hope that helps!

Lol that's sounds good SMC, we can then judge player son smiley form :)

So coming into the match boggo's got 2 big grins a frown followed by tears so its anyone guess where it will go :) s

Steven - can you add a number of events player for each guy for the 09 and 10, as that might also show a bit more of a truer picture on form, less events but more/equal points would be an improvement.

Poor Steven - as soon as he comes up with something, people pile even more work on him!

Good if he can manage it though.

Don't worry, the number of events is on the T25 tables too, I've already edited them into the post.

Steven, can you add a smile to go with the others. Or, as a fan of British tennis, should I just get used to dealing with gasps?

I edited it back into the original post using the images produced by Excel's export of this week's table, then realised that I didn't make a mistake when I first did it - instead, the table must have been changed after I did it before you picked up the images.

If you pick up the new one in the next few hours you should be ok. If not (i.e. if there's still no basic smile when you next look) I'll place the image again using a much earlier table that shouldn't change again.
