Does Priddle automatically get QF points for that 'win' then?

I guess that is one of the flaws of the ranking system then, since Davis will have enjoyed a year of easier qualifying draws, although he has failed to take advantage of it. Doesn't look like Priddle's going to miss the opportunity though since I guess he'll now be in the top 8 seeds for most of the GB futures so won't have to beat anyone higher ranked to qualify.

A bit disappointing to see Dan lose to Lemke having done so well last week and Lemke having been dreadful against Arlidge which makes the result a big surprise.

With Kontinen out a great chance for a Brit to reach the final in that half and even if Martin does get past Illy again, so you would one of Dan or Josh would have enough to beat him.

The doubles competition looks like a war of attrition:

First round (British unless stated):

(1) Josh Goodall & Sam Groth (AUS) WR 420 defeated (WC) Ben Davis & Stefan Sterland-Markovic by 2 & 5 smile  cry

Dan Evans & Sean Thornley WR 1455 defeated (WC) Sid Hazarika & Toby Martin UNR by 6-3 7-6(4) smile  cry

(3) Chris Eaton & Dominic Inglot WR 429 "lost" to Barry King & James McGee (IRL/IRL) by a walkover bleh

Neil Pauffley & Alex Ward WR 1520 lost to Kamil Capkovic & Andrej Martin (SVK/SVK) WR 972 by 6-3 0-6 [3-10] cry

Maniel Bains & Marcus Willis WR 1387 "defeated" Dan Cox & Josh Milton WR 2082 by a walkover smile  cry

Burnham Arlidge & Chris Priddle UNR defeated (4) Olivier Charroin & Ludovic Walter (FRA/FRA) by 6-5 retired biggrin

Tim Bradshaw & John Millman (AUS) WR 1090 defeated (WC) Daniel Cochrane & James Hignett by 3 & 1 smile  cry

Benas Majauskas & Dovydas Sakinis (LTU/LTU) UNR "defeated" (2) Henri Kontinen & Frederik Nielsen (FIN/DEN) WR 422 by a walkover

QFs:

(1) Josh Goodall & Sam Groth (AUS) WR 420 vs Dan Evans & Sean Thornley WR 1455

Barry King & James McGee (IRL/IRL) vs Kamil Capkovic & Andrej Martin (SVK/SVK) WR 972

Maniel Bains & Marcus Willis WR 1387 vs Burnham Arlidge & Chris Priddle UNR

And one already decided:

Tim Bradshaw & John Millman (AUS) WR 1090 "defeated" Benas Majauskas & Dovydas Sakinis (LTU/LTU) UNR by a walkover.  smile  They will face the winners of Bains & Willis WR 1387 vs Arlidge & Priddle in the semi-final.

*  Arlidge & Priddle both seem to be having a good tournament! biggrin

Delighted for Priddle after all that time striving to get a ranking, all that hard work now paying off.

Anyone else think Burnham can take out Groth the form he is in?

One thing that impressed me with Burnham, was that he wasn't trying to kill the ball everytime he hit it. So many of the players were often going for power over placement, and as a result making too many UE's. I think Dan S was a bit guilty of this. There wasn't enough variety, so it became too predictable for Lemke and he was able to anticipate where the ball was going to be and what pace it would have.

Burnham on the other hand, mixed things up quite a bit and moved his opponent around a lot more. That sort of thing could work against Groth, who's a big man and whilst covering a lot of the court just by standing still, may not be as agile as some of the other players. Obviously, a lot will depend on whether he can get anything on Groth's serves though.

Has anyone else had difficulty accessing the britishtennis.net website? When I googled it today I get some weird tennis site rather than the normal one with the Davis Cup banner as at top of this page.

I managed to locate this thread through my history log but still got the the weird home page when I clicked on the history log from yesterday.

Cheers

I thought Goody would beat Dan. He just has much more firepower in everyshot (except backhand maybe lol). I expect he just hits through Dan.

A Ward keeps on going coming behind from a thrashing in the 1st set again.
