That's five events in a row in which the GB no. 9 (Curtis) has failed to score a point, and this is the worst loss of the lot, I wonder what's wrong there. Great win for Alexandra, of course!
Mezak's win against the no. 2 seed must be good for Anna, who's the other seed in that quarter
Jade Windley was supposed to be playing the no. 1 seed Kuyanovich, so it looks like Cornish replaced her as a LL - not sure if we have anyone left in the top half of the draw who could take full advantage or this - perhaps Whybourn (who must be a bit rusty though, recently back from injury edit: which must be why she's already gone out to an unranked qualifier ) or Windley herself, maybe even Emily, who is also in the top quarter.

Over the moon for Alex Walker a local girl who has found some decent form recently. Mind you beating Jade at the moment is not the scalp it would have been last year. I have spoken to a lady who knows her well at the Northumberland club where she trains and have been told she has a tremendous desire to make it in the professional game and works her socks off off the court to maximise her chances. Lovely girl as well always smiling and not at all acting above her station.

I wonder too. I heard some injury problems, but she's still played quite a bit and lost !
At the start of the year when possible top 300 players were being mentioned I felt Jade was being ignored a bit considering how she had pushed on last year. I certainly saw no reason not to expect her to push a bit into the top 300.
