Week 10 Futures - Montreal, Canada F2 ($10K) - Hard

David Rice (7) GBR WR 510 v. Gilad Ben Zvi ISR WR 692

WR 620 or an unranked WC in the second round, so a good shot at quarters, where he'd probably face top seed Vasek Pospisil (WR 312).

The Ivorian no. 1 had a CH of 339 back in 2004 but has only won 2 relatively close matches (in 3 tournaments) this year, against Artem Smirnov (UKR) WR 367, but who was playing his own first match since last September, and against Todd Paul (USA) WR 501 and losing to Sekulic WR 1185, Burquier WR 339 and another match by retirement.

Sanon has played loads of Brits over the years, even taking a set off Boggo in 2004 and once double bagelling Adam Lownsbrough. He lost to both Josh Milton and Neil Pauffley last year before winning a tight match against Dan Smethurst in Turkey last April.

Dr No's win today may well see him crack the top 500 on Monday week, though it won't give us an extra top 500 player because Bloomers is sadly due to drop out.

Good day for Jérôme Inzerillo (FRA) yesterday:  after dumping out the top seed in the singles, Vasek Pospisil (CAN), by 4 & 4, he & Ricey (UNR) saw off Christopher Klingemann & Bryan Koniecko (USA/USA) (WR 1890) by 6-7(2) 6-4 [10-4] in the doubles!

SF:  Jérôme Inzerillo (FRA) & David Rice UNR vs (2) Cory Parr & Todd Paul (USA/USA) WR 698

The doubles partners play each other next:

L16: (7) David Rice GBR 509 beat Valentin Sanon (CIV) WR 619 by 3 & 4 smile.gif

QF: (7) David Rice GBR 509 v Jerome Inzerillo (FRA) WR 759

That's Dr No definitely into the top 500 for the first time, keeping us with 11 men in the top 500 despite Bloomers being due to drop out of the top 500 on Monday week.

It would be entirely understandable if they didn't go flat out for a win in that match, saving themselves instead for their singles QF encounter... wink

Good week so far for Rice and a great chance of a semi final here which would be a good way to cap his new high ranking.

Sounds a bit of a struggle, but good to get the win.

But added to Smethurst and Anna Smith's very good wins today, which takes all three of them to CHs, and a very honourable defeat by Boggo  not a bad day at all   smile

Bally still to come, though quite a task there.
