:O !! So it happened- I, personally think its a shame. He was always complimented by the players. It was them that weren't good enough on the day in my opinion

Yes, I'd be amazed if that's not the case.

Pete Fleming who apparently knows JL quite well said he would have received a lot of money.
They're currently discussing the topic on Sky Sports, with the general consensus being Lloyd did the best he could with what he had available, which clearly wasn't the case.
OEM is sticking to his line that Greg will be offered the job - and he must know enough to be pretty confident, because having had his first report about them talking to Greg denied, I doubt he would risk getting proved wrong again.
I'm not in favour of too much player power, but Andy does have a point when he says:
Its not just me who wants to have a say but the players collectively, Murray said. I dont want to be responsible for everything in British tennis, I just want to play and get on with my own career.
But when it comes to decisions like this, its very important for all the players, because if someone of Dan Evans ranking (No.252) is under an incredible amount of pressure, they need to feel comfortable with the person whos there. He needs to feel confident, to feel that the captain gets him, because if they dont support him, hes not going to play well. We dont want the final say, we just want a say.

I just heard the news on Sky Sports! Peter Fleming went into a long discussion about it in the studio, and they asked Mark Petchey (commentating in Indian Wells) if he was a candidate for the post, and Petch said that he had no idea that he might be asked and would be very surprised if he was approached.

I have to say, in regards to this whole "the LTA will be reviewing" etc... it's about ruddy time. They've been making a right hash of things. Especially with grass roots tennis.
I can exclusively reveal that in the campaign to save indoor tennis courts in a certain area (I shall refrain from naming names at this point, until the moderators confirm whether this is an issue or not), the LTA was brought in for the attempt to try and save the courts. The LTA consultant, whom I shall refer to only as Mr D, was then awarded the contract for maintaining the outdoor courts in the complex (only the indoor courts are being torn down), and in the final meeting to decide the fate of the courts Mr D from the LTA then chose to side with the SCL and support the tearing down of the tennis courts in order to build a ten pin bowling alley. This agreement between the LTA and the SCL was kept secret until the final meeting, previously the LTA had assured the campaigners to save the tennis courts that it would do everything to support them. And yes, this is the cause that Judy Murray supported, stating that "We need all the indoor courts we can get as our weather is so bad in the winter months. We need to be investing in tennis facilities not removing them or we will never grow the game."
For shame, LTA, for shame. As Judy says, this is what's wrong with tennis in this country. And the LTA have the audacity to be surprised and wonder where they're going wrong?! What's going wrong is that they are destroying the grass roots which tennis in this country desperately needs to thrive and grow. We can all see how the situation is currently, and the LTA are seeing grass roots tennis shut down even as we lost that tie in Lithuania, thus making the situation worse and depriving British tennis of badly needed facilities, I ask you where will the kids train if their regional tennis centre has been shut down? The next nearest facilities could be over two hours drive away! - things are bad now well they're going to get worse in future if this continues!

I am glad JL did the right thing and resign before he was pushed. Whatever you want to say about his abilities as a captain he has my respect as a human being in not demanding a huge settlement in lieu of his removal. How many sports would this development have been replicated in.
I must say I also feel the constant bashing of the LTA is also way overdone . Yes it is far from being a perfect institution but they have not been as bad as everyone says under the tutelage of Roger Draper. He tried something different by bringing in highly paid well known coaches. Yes it hasn't worked but the previous regime were pretty hapless as well with what they had tried. Providing a local example of why we as a nation struggle to develop junior players. The LTA contacted the Chairman of my local tennis club and asked him if he could make our courts available to young players from our local schools and the reaction was I'm not going to let a group of young louts ruin our tennis courts. So nothing is easy even with the best will in the world.
Since they were discussing the DC captain replacement, I e-mailled them and told them how we'd been discussing it here on britishtennis.net, and gave them the results of our poll "Who should be the next DC captain" (from the Lithuania thread). They read it out (the names and percentages and everything) and specifically said "britishtennis.net".
Peter Fleming even made a joke and said "why didn't I make it onto that list?!" and Marcus Buckland suggested that maybe he came under our "Someone else" poll option!

If John Llyod has indeed actually resigned and / or taken much less than he would have been entitled to if sacked then credit to him for that.
Whatever some folk may say about the players at his disposal, I will maintain as others do that among other faults he did not select well or motivate well, in short he did not do a very good job at all.
I am pleased just for him that he leaves with some dignity.
