Yeh, but most players have to go through the grass court season whatever their surface. Its a warm up for a grandslam where anything can happen. There aren't any decent alternative surfaces for ATP events at that time i think so i guess he has to, unless he misses out.

True but does not really explain the Newport entry

Maybe he's been told to have a go at Newport so that he plays on grass early in the week of the DC tie ...

Lets hope the Davis Cup captain(whoever that may be) has the courage to include Dan Smethurst in his thoughts for this tie, Smethurst having just beaten Dan Evans convincingly at The Tipton Futures.

It doesn't. Maybe it is something to do with DC as i bet Turkey are thinking about an away tie on grass.

Definitely, But i'd think slower surfaces would bring him into the occasion more. As he tends to play on the clay quite a bit from what ive seen.

Mmm - Ilhan no longer entered for Newport...in fact Boggo is ther only entrant at the moment!

lol Boggo obviously making a statement of intent there!

there's a possibility Ilhan didn't initially realise that the DC and Newport clashed.

Unconfirmed as of yet, but there are strong rumours that the tie will be played in Eastbourne.

I'd still play it on hard courts, and I am presuming they are not planning on building one in Eastbourne for the tie   hmm.gif

Less uncertainty than on grass and maybe confuse ourselves as to who our best players for the tie are.

I dont think we should play it in on hard because we've had that for the past 3 ties and i think we've struggled.

I know Ilhan plays on hard courts a lot of the time as well. I think were most dangerous on grass because if we can hold our serve a lot we have a chance at winning any rubber.

Is that clear anyway?  Both our two singles players have been beaten by a couple of the lower ranked Brits in the past week so maybe playing someone like Eaton or Goodall would have more success on the grass than Ward or Evo.  Also both Milts and Willis won a round at Wimbledon last year so maybe leave a spot for any of the 89/90 players who have some good results in the grass season.

I think Goody, Eaton and Flemski would take Turkey on Grass.
