See some of you, hopefully, the weekend after Wimbledon as we try to avoid a drop to the very bottom division of DC ...
I'm sure there will be more detailed previews to follow, but in short, Turkey have just one decent player, Marsel Ilhan (born in Uzbekistan) ranked 121, whose record against Brits is:
0-2 v Wardy (6-4 in the 3rd, Chennai ATP Q 2010, 7-6(5) in the 3rd, Zagreb ATP Q 2010) 1-1 v Boggo (Boggo 3 sets, Manchester Challenger 2009, Ilhan 4 & 4, AO Q 2010) 1-0 v Evo (6-1 in the 3rd, Manchester Challenger 2009) 1-0 v Dan Cox (2 sets, Turkey F5 2009)
They have no other players ranked in the top 800 in singles and only one player (Ilhan at 695) ranked in the top 1000 in doubles.
The only other time we have played a relegation tie at this level was when we beat Monaco 5-0 in Eastbourne in 1995 - it was the first match Tim and Greg both played in, with Broad/Petchey winning the doubles rubber, and we didn't lose a set.
Wardy looks to be a shoe-in for this one. I'd add Boggo (or possibly Baker) and Flemski. We've got to win this to avoid a drop to our worst ever level, so no experimenting with Dee and Goode!

Since we know it's going to be a home tie, any idea where we might choose to play this one, Steven? Wimbly again maybe, or will they be too busy clearing up after the big fortnight? I'll probably be there for this one, unless I'm in Bastad that weekend.

It's anybody's guess - probably on grass given the time of year and the opposition, so maybe Wimby Court 2, Eastbourne, Nottingham, Manchester or Liverpool.

Wimby would be nice. No accomodation or travel fees for me if they hold it at Wimby.
I'll let you do the detailed preview. After creating a mammoth preview for Ireland, I don't think I'm up to going back to the drawing board and doing Turkey.

I'd be playing it on hard courts, and picking Boggo and Ward.
Much less variable than grass ( some Turks might even find an unexpected liking to grass ! ) and Boggo and Ward suit hard anyway.
It's a relegation game against a team with a very weak 2nd player so just don't pick as 2nd player any players whose good may often be good enough to beat quite high ranked players but whose bad can see them lose badly to much lower ranked players.
Naa, play that on hard with Boggo, Ward and Flemski and it's a win.
This one has to be in Glasgow, with a noisy partisan, but knowledgeable, home crowd. If Murray's not available, as anticipated, it must be Boggo to get another chance at No1 under (I assume) a new captain. Anyway, whoever's in the No1 slot, and if he's fit and in reasonable form, I'd definitely put Baker at No2 in anticipation of another potential 5th rubber decider. He's one player who'd definitely thrive in that atmosphere. Flemski should be a shoe-in for the doubles, if their form holds up.

For gods sake NONE of the above, bring it back to Birmingham (NIA or NEC), proven venue, the scene of some our best ties in recent times. A central location which guarantees an electric atmosphere.
Re: Davis Cup - Euro Africa Zone Group II relegation play-off - GBR v Turkey, 9-11 July 2010 in Glasgow.
Having been there I can confirm there was quite an atmosphere - the players, Eaton, and especially Goodall, seemed sluggish and unable to respond. (I'd have to say Eaton looks stronger and fitter this year - but has fallen out of favour for some reason?) The court at Braehead is very fast and perfect for Boggo, as observed by many at the time. With a new captain and at least two 'local heroes', there would be more than enough atmosphere to see Jamie Baker through a potentially tricky last rubber. Anyway, I believe the World Cup final is on the same weekend; so there will definitely be more interest in tennis north of the border - which will ensure a good turnout!
