aparently courts are fast here, Alex says he never played on anything as fast!

The indoor hard courts in former Yugoslav countries nearly always seem to be super-fast, Sijsling is 6'3 so probably a decent server, but not a huge server judging from the stats for his 9 matches so far this year, most recent tournaments first:

Aces: 4, 7, 3, 7, 3, 0, 4, 1, 0
1st serve %: 76, 65, 57, 72, 54, 55, 59, 67, 70
Won on FS: 67, 80, 78, 75, 75, 54, 69, 68, 38
Won on SS: 25, 31, 58, 44, 53, 29, 39, 42, 33

This suggests he's quite reliable at getting decent 1st serves in but his 2nd serve is not good at all.

William Hill odds for this match are Boggo 1.67 Sijsling 2.05.

think this is going to be tough, didnt realise sijsling had wins over C.Rochus abd Zverev this year, as well as taking sod to a tb indoors.

Didn't Sijsling retire and then make a very succesful comeback last year?

Actually I might be thinking of Sluiter...

Rochus and Zverev? ROFL.

Sijsling is nothing special, he hasn't seemed anything like a top 200 player when I have seen him play, Boggo should wipe the floor with him.

Wasn't Zverev on a 13 match losing streak or something?

Not quite.  He suffered two 7 match losing streaks that were only seperated by a win of Leo Mayer in Bangkok.

And strangely enough the run appears to be totally explainable: he abandoned his S&V & 1-2 punch gamestyle.  I watched him recently and he's playing almost unconditionally from the back of the court, and is being dominated in the process by players who he could swipe aside if only he were to return to his old style of play!

hehe i wish i shared your confidence in this one, Boggo only just beat him last time they met, 75 in the 3rd on, what i assume are slower courts in Vancouver.

fingers crossed tho.

i think alex needs to open it up a little bit more, should have tried passing down the line rather than the lob.

really though he is getting hos racquet in the serves, just cant get them back in play.

still lets hope he can keep tight and get to a TB at least
