Well, I didn't see that coming (and nor did the bookies who only gave him a 20% chance) - Setkic is a set up against Beck. Beck is still the slight fav with the bookies.
Setkic has only faced Brits twice - he lost 4 & 2 to Lee Childs in qualifying for this event in 2004 and beat the Dominator in two t/bs in the semi-final of Bosnia F1 last month.

Does anyone agree coming off the Team Aegon list has given Alex the extra incentive/motivation he needed to sharpen up his performances this year. Imagine DA into Wimbledon without any need for a wild card then win a round or two would certainly silence his critics.

I don't think it's linked to that because he was already doing pretty well in the second half of last year. I think missing out on DC (and the associated curse) might have helped though, perhaps even the whole thing of not having to keep the LTA sweet any more and being able to plan his own schedule.

honestly, i don't think so. reaching a challenger sf and a qf here, is bread and butter for alex, look at his results last summer, post wimby he had a decent run at Manchester and Vancouver whilst struggling with injury, then he also did won in kolding.
i know the funding has effected hsi decision making though, opting not to go to a certain events due to cash, or lack of.
but maybe perversely that does help, forcing him not to overplay.

Setkic just had another bp, though didn't take it. His serving seems tobe exceptional today though - in 7 service games, he hasn't even been taken to deuce yet and Beck is averaging 1.14 points per return game.

well considering last time beck was winning what 77% of 2nd serves vs alex maybe it wouldn't make much difference? Alex less likely to get broken, more likely to win in a tb?

Tell you what I hadn't realised, at WR 359 Setkic is the Bosnian no. 1 and he won both of his singles rubbers for the loss of just one set to help Bosnia come back 0-1 and 1-2 down to beat FYR Macedonia 3-2 away in DC last weekend - no wonder he's on a high at the moment! (they won in the round we lost in btw )
