Week 9 - ITF ($25K) - Hammond, USA Hard

YESSSS.
Just logged on and very pleased for heather and naomi.

I'm not to suprised about mel's loss. Shes been struggling all season.

Good about the dubs aswell.

Heather's win will give her a new CH when it's added, and I reckon another win by Naomi might see her squeeze into a new CH too.

Interesting that Heather is getting all the plaudits for her victory by the media and nothing for Naomi.
Thought I would copy a report from the local Guernsey press pre tournament about bonding.

http://www.thisisguernsey.com/2010/02/27/watson-breaks-with-routine/

I noticed that alot of the British players all withdrew from the 15/3 week beginning tournaments on the same day backing up the theory that the LTA is pushing to get the girls to compete together at tournaments wherever possible. Thinking outside the box is another way to maximise their performances .

Heather is bound to get more media coverage than other players at a similar level becuase Guernsey has so few other sports stars in international competiton. BBC Guernsey sports reports get syndiacated onto the main tennis site on BBC sport so she always gets more coverage there. Anyway its better than no players getting any coverage!

Looking at the draw for Naomi in particular, if she can get through this round, things seems to be opening up for her. The next round will be against either Jamie Hampton or Jingjing Lu.

Jamie Hampton has scored a few points recently, but her results suggests she prefers clay courts.

As for Lu, she was beaten by both Georgie and Tara Moore recently and has picked up most of her WR points at events in China and Korea, where the level of competition has been very weak for the points on offer.

Run before walk and all that, but fingers crossed, Naomi can get as far as the semi-final here.

Hard fought win for Naomi to report.
6-3 2-6 6-4

Not as impressive as yesterday but when I looked at the other girls form I thought it should be pretty close so a solid performance nonetheless. Will need to step it up to make further progress though.

Yes, seems a good solid win by Naomi  smile

Actually, as described by SMC, either of her potential quarter final opponents doesn't seem too bad, so a similar performance level may be good enough again to progress to the semis.

The more she does step it up the better of course for now and the future.

Closing in on her CH of 282 and another win should make sure of a new CH.

Excellent to see Naomi winning another close one, and according to her website she plays Jamie Hampton in the quarters.

She won 6-4 6-4.

This victory confirms that Heather has made a decent step forward this week to back up your best senior performance with another one equally as good shows real progression . Heather it seems to me is really starting to turn it up a notch.

R2: (q) Heather WATSON WR 484 def. (5) Monique ADAMZCAK ( AUS ) WR 149 6-4 6-4

Another barn stormer from Heather!! With performances such as this  there really shouldn't be any cap on what she might achieve at this level, and therefore the rest of this tournament.

QF:
(q) Heather WATSON WR 484  vs, (3) Shuai Zhang (CHN) WR 145 OR Chun-Mei JI (CHN) WR 368

Ohoh yes. Great stuff Heather. I think that's officially her best win, in terms of ranking.

I hope she doesn't start to get tired because tommorow will be her 10th match this week or there abouts.
