I suspect Mel is as confused by her form as we are. Ever since she had that long training block last year, she seems to have gone downhill. Such a pity after working so hard to get into the top 100.

Not really fair, though - apart from the Sydney points (where she was rather lucky with Bartoli's retirement), she barely gained a point up until the training block. I daresay it's just lack of confidence at the minute (and getting used, perhaps, to having increased power/movement?). Her website also said she had a foot infection (which sounds a bit bizzare!) after her Minella loss, so it might have been playing up. She's got the ability, it'll just require some perseverance for the results to start coming - and since she's nothing to defend til the start of June (and then precious little), she's got time on her side.

Yes, I pretty much agree with jb288.  I get the impression Mel genuinely feels she's not far off getting some really decent results, it seems she feels the game is there, but frustratingly just not when she wants it. I suspect a result or two could really kickstart things.

Minor detail, she does have 20 points to defend from Miami FQR last year, due to come off at the start of April.  Otherwise nothing until June and in total only 83 points before the US Open.

Wow, 20 pts for 1 win, didn't realise that. Still, is harder to get into that GS qualies so makes sense I guess.
