Oh damn. That is disappointing.

No chance of getting back to #3 just yet then. I see Delpo is also out, so at least his #4 is safe at the moment.

I hope we hear soon the reason for the withdrawal, and that it is nothing serious.

After playing in Australia for five weeks, Andy has taken an extra week off to recuperate and recover for the long season ahead.

from his website, this is asking for a 0 pointer from the atp

Good decision then assuming he can avoid the 'nil' points.

It's only a 250, you don't get zero-pointers for them, do you?

With a 28 player draw he would have played a max of 4 matches in a fairly weak draw so easy points you would have thought.

Not about maximising ranking points at this stage in his career rather putting himself in the best position to win that elusive grand slam. Look at Fed's schedule he plays the minimum number of matches apart from the Grand Slams and yet his grand slam record speaks for itself.

Ban Andy Murray! Furious French tennis tournament boss wants British No 1 suspended for missing Marseille Open

'A few days ago he asked me for five hotel rooms and I gave him them.

'The number one seed of a tournament should have a sense of responsibility.

Maybe a bit OTT and it won't happen.

However, I am not without sympathy with Monsieur Caujolle.  Not the first time that Andy has seemingly had an unnecessarrly late change of mind ( quite apart from similar apparently happening at Marseille before ) that has had significant adverse effect on others.
