RE: Week 6 - ITF ($100K) - Midland, USA Hard

Wow, didn't expect a score like that from Anne.  Great stuff.   Well done Bally on also strolling through.

Good chance now for setting up an intriguing semi-final meeting.

By all accounts Anne's opponent didn't have a great match I think she might have been ill. Certainly Anne's post match tweet wasn't suggesting she played brilliant tennis just happy to get off the court in double quick time. Hopefully we will see all brit SF.

Where was the suggestion Danilidou was ill  ?   She played and won on the MTB a doubles match, which I would think must have been pretty soon after her singles loss to Anne last night, so certainly couldn't have been too serious. She continues in doubles on today's schedule.

A Greek poster on tennis forum said that according to her blog she was sick. That's all the information I have.

Bally wins her QF:
6-4 6-4

Anne 3rd up after second QF.

Good stuff from Bally, that's another 34 points for winning her quarter final to take her to 70 points for the week so far.

Win her semi and she'll get a further errr 30 points.  I do need some convincing that some of the women's points allocations are not just silly.

Well, I think all but the WTA committee who worked out the scheme need convincing....

Bally's career has been punctuated by streaks of wins in 1, 2 or 3 tournaments followed by a lengthy period of modest results. It is very pleasing therefore to see her achieve consistency of performance over a prolonged period. Clearly Nino's input is working a treat, and it makes me wonder what might have happened had she left the Alan Jones/Jo Durie regime earlier (even allowing for the greater problems with health / injury in those days)

There is a report on tennisforum that Anne lost in three, but no score.

Pity for Anne, but overall I find her performances this week pretty encouraging that she will soon really be back into full swing.

Yes, I think you're right - both about Anne and about the illogicality of the WTA rankings!

Meanwhile, Elena has ensured that she will be at a new CH on Monday and is fast heading for the top 75 with no points to defend until April smile.gif

"I had 2 match points today and I blew it. My body is a wreck, hopefully I'll be ok for Memphis next week though. Wish I was 16 again!!" cry
