RE: Week 6 - ITF ($100K) - Midland, USA Hard

Katie is having a very Rus-heavy week! Could meet her in QFs, having just lost to her, and playing doubs together...Tatishvili beat her in USO qualies of course; don't know much about Granville but her results last year were nothing much. Has beaten Zec Peskiric this year though. Kind draws for the other three hopefully (though one can only assume Naomi will play one of them if she qualifies!) - though Anne has a pretty tough quarter!

The ITF site is frequently a waste of time - in more ways than one! hmm Try here. wink

USTA is even more fail than the ITF.

Tournament site has working draw downloads and HTML results pages on the right of the main menu http://www.dowcorningtennisclassic.com/

Naomi won 6-4 6-3 solid if not spectacular.
Heather is playing Capra which I think is a decent draw. But don't be fooled by her ranking as she is much better than that. I see Heather as the victor but possibly in three sets. I disagree that Naomi has a good draw as Beltrame is a former top 100 player and therefore it would easily be a career win for Naomi if she was get the 'w' in that one.

Her decline has been highly publicised. I'm suprised you didn't hear.

Basically, she woke up one morning and forgot how play tennis.

Great opportunity for Heather. Pardon my ignorance, but will the 6 pts for qualifying still be added to the 18 (dunno if figures are right) she would get for getting to the second round? So if she beats Capra she will effectively be getting half-again as many points as she has at the moment? Putting her deep into the top 500?

Heather didn't qualify, she had a WC to the main draw, so no, she won't get the 6 points.

As SMC says Heather is a WC here.

On the other hand, she still has her 14 points to be added for her QF in Sutton last week, which combined with one point for 1st round here already puts her on 62 points  ( 47 + 14 + 1 ) for next Monday which should be top 500.

If she gets 18 points for a 1st round win, she will go to 79 points, which should take her to around WR 430.

Round One draw for the girls :

(4) Katie O'BRIEN  WR 84  vs  Laura GRANVILLE  ( USA ) WR 286
(WC) Heather WATSON  WR 556  vs  (q) Beatrice COPRA  ( USA )  WR 726
(q) Naomi BROADY  WR 293  vs  Severine BELTRANE  ( FRA )  WR 195
(3) Elena BALTACHA  WR 83  vs  (q) Maureen DRAKE  ( CAN )  WR 875
Anne KEOTHAVONG  WR 127  vs  (q) Ivana LISJAK  ( CRO )  WR 204

Katie and Heather in 2nd quarter,  Naomi and Elena in 3rd quarter and would meet in 2nd round if both won, and Anne in 4th quarter.

I would say Heather and Capra are of similiar ability, but heather did have a higher junior pedigree. However, capra has had the qualies to get her in the swing. So will probably be close. I think Naomi might find it tough, but I do expect wins from the other 3.
