Another hold from Fleming to get to 2-5. They are finding a better rhythm on serve, but unfortunately big serves are the only way for them to win points
And its all over! 6-2, 6-4 for the Bryans. Very comfortable win by the brothers. I'm sure they were fired up after the loss at Queens. Its hard to predict how Flemski's year will be from watching this match, since the Bryans were looking unbelievably sharp. Good serving from Col and Ken after a slow start, with Fleming's serve looking more effective. They both looked OK at the net but there were times when they needed to stick the volleys more, and the Bryans groundstrokes were frequently forcing them onto their heels. Never really had a chance at breaking serve, but neither do most teams against the Bryans. The thing I like the most from Flemski is their positive energy throughout, even though they were never really in it. If they can maintain that energy throughout the season, hopefully they can take their chances and keep a decent ranking so that they can stick around at this level and build their games.
By the way, I haven't seen Ken play since I hit with him at Palmerston tennis club in Liverpool when he was 10 years old so it's great to see him doing this well. His compact backhand reminds me of the Russian bull, Mr. Alexander Volkov!
Tough draw for them to get the Bryans in the first round and it's not surprising that they were beaten by what looked to be a good performance by what are the best team in the world at the moment.
Hopefully they can take something from this match and know what they need to work on to get to a position where they are able to beat the best teams.
Flemski have had an average start to the season with a couple of tough draws. Now they have to show how strong mentally they are by overcoming this slow start and hopefully start climbing the rankings again.
