RE: Week 4 - Futures F3 ($10K) - Tamarac, FL, USA - clay

Dan might have injured his knee or something, looking at last week's result.

Another good win from one of our most on-form players! smile

L16: Morgan Phillips WR 427 beat (3) Artem Sitak (RUS) WR 348 by 4-6 7-6(5) 7-5 biggrin

QF: Morgan Phillips WR 427 v Matteo Viola (ITA) WR 418

Looks like Morgan is showing some excellent mental strength at the moment judging by that scoreline!

Viola is 2-3 against Brits, but the first four of those matches were in a GB Satellite series in 2005 when he lost to Baker, Brewer and Corrie but beat Miotto and the fifth was earlier this week when he stuffed Brewer 2 & 1.

Two good wins for Morgan this week and great for him to come through two very close matches as well as a vaguely recall him having a poor record in close matches recently, and a good chance for him to pick up some good points and get himself into the top 400 for the first time and push on towards challengers.

What A Guy! I can quite see the confusion though - the other meaning is much more common!

It's not turning out to be a great day for the Brits today - sadly, Morgan only got one more game off Viola than Brewer did as the Italian completed the double Brit bash.

QF: Morgan Phillips WR 427 lost to Matteo Viola (ITA) WR 418 by 2 & 2 cry

Oh dear.  I've just read the bad news from the 3 futures, and I had been really quite hopeful of a good end to the week from these guys.

There's no getting away from the fact that these are among our top guys currently playing futures, and that we woiuld like to see playing or back to playing challengers, and this doesn't look good.

Morgan's performances this week have been the most encouraging although that QF is on the face of it a pretty decisive defeat.  He has started the year promisingly.

Hopefully ( in a sad way ) these events have helped narrow down JL's Davis Cup choices to in my mind the more natural choices, in case he was at all thinking otherwise.

Not surprised he lost. Viola. Very difficult to play.
