Girls: Country Club Barranquilla Open, Colombia - Grade 1 (Week 3)

Natalie Beazant begins a series of events on her favourite clay surface, after a disappointing run on hardcourts at the back end of 2009. Should she reach the quarter-finals here she will probably meet An-Sophie Mestach, a highly-rated Belgian who may well challenge for the junior number 1 spot by the end of the year

R1 (L64)

(10) Natalie Beazant BYE

I must admit I don't see Mestach being number 1 but still see her as top 10.

Costa Melgar reached the final of her first 10K event on clay back in 2008 so will be tough opposition, and a good guide to where Natalie is on this surface.

..... and the guide is that there is a lot to do before she is at the level of top junior clay-courters cry

R3: Natalie BEAZANT (GBR) (10) lost to Cecilia COSTA MELGAR (CHI) (8) 2-6 2-6

Hmmm it will be interesting to see how Natalie fares in this run of clay events, clay seems to be her favourite surface so hopefully it will be profitable for her.
