After their fine run in Sydney Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr have drawn the short straw of familiar bogey Polish opponents in Melbourne. Ross (with Stephen Huss) lost to the same combination in last year's event. Flemski make their debut with a better draw, though their opponents reached the final in Chennai.
R1
Hutchins/Kerr (GBR/AUS) v (7) Fyrstenberg/Matkowski (POL) Fleming/Skupski (GBR) v Lu/Tipsarevic (TPE/SRB)
Anyone but the Poles!! Brits (namely Hutchins and both Murray's) have a 1-10 record against them since Andy and Jamie beat them in Doha in 2006.
The only consolation I can take from this is that the Poles always tend to underperform in Slams, only reaching the last eight twice in their career, but both of those occasions were in Melbourne.
It could have been better, but I don't think Flemski have too much to complain about with their first round draw. The 4th seeds Bhupathi and Mirnyi do await in round two though.
very nice, I think how Flemski manage here will be important for the first half of their year, a good few wins and they should be able to get into the first masters, otherwise they could be struggling and they need to be in the big tournaments all through the year if they want a crack at the ATP tour finals.

Although they came back from 1-5 to 4-5, they couldn't pull out the win ... not sure what the final score was in the tie break. Too bad, so close ......
