Elena breaks again on her 5th break point, once again helped by a fortunate netcord (apparently there was one in the opening game) and 2 Bonda DFs. She's still started very well though and is out-hitting Bonda from the baseline.

Playing very solidly at the moment, allowing Bonderenko to make the mistakes. It's a risky strategy but she's going to have to make certain sacrafics within her game to pull off the upset.

15-0 stunning volley in an awkward position that lands right on the line
15-15 backhand down the line just misses, almost another winner.
15-30 bonda wrongfoots by going back crosscourt and elena can't recover
30-30 2nd serve return long
30-40 forehand long going for too much
game bonda - bally was on top but too passive allowing bonda to take the initiative

15-0 easy volley
30-0 mis-ht after deep ground strokes
40-0
game - ace.

3-2 to bally, still one break up but that last game was rather easy. Looks like Bonda is beginning to find her way back into the match.

It's matches like this that make me wonder where all of the ex-pats are..??

Eastern european, turkish, cypriot fans seem to flock in numbers to see players from their native land whilst there never seems to be much of an atmosphere at any Brit match outside of Andy M. Some boisterous support could be just what Bally needs to keep her spirits up and fight in her.

30-30 great first serve and eventually wins the point after a couple of volleys
30-40 another good serve but a very short return which bally couldn't quite get to in time
deuce - forehand winner down the line
ad-40 bonda slices into net
deuce - bonda's turn for a lucky net cord off a good defensive lob from bally
ad-40 bonda backhand wide
deuce - volley hits the very top of the net but doesn't quite make it over
ad-40 ace out wide
game bally- great passing shot which lands right in the corner

4-2, huge hold right there just when the match seemed to be turning around.

0-40 attacking 2nd serve return and bonda under to much pressure hits forehand into net
game bally - another great point gives elena an easy smash

*5-2 double break restored and 2nd break to love. Now just have to close out the set smile

Watching on tv helps but I think I'm going to have to stop after this set, need to carry on with the revision for some exams tomorrow. Or today now i guess.

James, maybe you should put a bet on Bondarenko. If she wins you make the profit and if she loses then we have a Brit in the 3rd round of a GS. and you don't lose anything else seeing as you've already made the deposit. wink
