maybe trying to adjust to the courts etc. i assume this is the 1st time Evo has played here, and as Wardy pointed out they play differently, slower and bouncing higher that perhaps is normal for most out door hard cts.
still 3 wins with no sets dropped is a good start, although the tougher tests await.

Yes, the odd wobble but even with a draw that good, three straight sets wins is an excellent outcome
QR2: Alex Bogdanovic WR 171 v (q24) Marsel Ilhan (TUR) WR 153 - 5th on C4 @ n/b 03.30 GMT (but probably much later)
Born in Uzbekistan but playing for Turkey, Ilhan is 22, 1.90 m tall and is just two places below the career high of 151 that he set last May. He has a 5-2 record against Brits but Boggo beat him in the Manchester Challenger QFs last year and Wardy beat him in Chennai ATP qualifying a couple of weeks ago. In both cases, the Brits won 6-4 in the 3rd having recovered from a set down!
QR2: James Ward WR 261 v (q9) Ilya Marchenko (UKR) WR 121 - 6th on C5 @ c. 06.30 GMT
Marchenko is 21 and is also two places off his career high of 119 set in October 2008. He is 3-2 against Brits, including a win against Josh Goodall in last year's DC tie, but he has been beaten by Chris Eaton (in the dead rubber of that DC tie) and by Jonny Marray in the Dnepro Challenger way back in 2006, though Ilya has improved a lot since then.
QR2: Dan Evans WR 266 v (q4) Santiago Ventura (ESP) WR 109 - Friday
Just turned 30, Ventura hit a CH of 65 in 2008 but he is a clay court specialist whose last win on any other surface before today was when he reached the FQR here last year. He is 5-1 against Brits including two wins against Boggo, but hasn't played a Brit since 2005, when he got thrashed 1 & 2 by Muzza at Queen's. That was the year Andy reached R3 and nearly beat ToJo and also the year Ventura reached R2 of the AO for the first and only time.

Well done boys, 3 straight set victories! Boggo seemed a bit rusty and Evo put us through a few worrying moments(par for the course), but all in all, every reason to be confident going into the next round.

whos the daddy on here! its me! i said we would have 3 qualifyers
I'm loving the all new 'positive Vandenburg', 13 days into the new year, not a mention of British players retiring and he's being bullish about british qualifiers in a grand slam! Long may it continue!

" I was a bit slow at first, a bit lethargic, because of the conditions, and because I'd been waiting around all day. I only flew in from Auckland last night and I was feeling a bit tired," Evans said afterwards. "He was good though. He does one thing, he just hits it. I knew the first set was the key."
Good to wake up ( yes, I am a lazy lie in ) to see all 3 guys through.
Was kind of prepared for Evo having maybe a few problems considering he was still playing in New Zealand the previous day and has flown in the previous afternoon / night with little look at the courts or prep. Good that he's apparently got Thursday off before things get rather more serious.
They were four of the easiest draws you will see in slam qualifying, but good to see them all come through without too much drama and all in straight sets.
Simple mistakes just seem to get pounced upon around here nowadays, no room to breath!
Back to the tennis, just seen two great results for Irish tennis today, Louk Sorensen beating Benjamin Ballert 7-6(6) 6-3 and Conor Niland knocking out Henri Kontinen (!) 6-4 6-4.
If we face them in the next round of the DC it could be very, very interesting.
