Another great win for the pair and they have really proved they have the potential to be a good team.
Unfortunately Nestor & Zimonjic are the type of team that either bomb out in the first round or go and win the tournament, so playing them in the final perhaps isn't the best time to play them.
By my calculations the final will take place at 5:30 am tomorrow.
Ross Hutchins and doubles partner Jordan Kerr are through to the men's doubles final at the Medibank International in Sydney after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Simon Aspelin and Jordan Kerr
The Anglo-Aussie pair have had a rip-roaring week, brushing aside No.3 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Olivier Marach 7-6, 6-1 in the quarter-finals, and overcoming a close encounter against Eric Butorac and Rajeev Ram in the first round. Despite searing temperatures in Sydney, and tricky blustery conditions, it has been a promising start for the pair, who are hoping to build up a long-term partnership in 2010.
"We've played well all week and today was another good win," said a very pleased Hutchins. "It's only our sixth tournament together and we've beaten some really good pairs. We've kept our belief and we've kept our form." The world No.52 also had some warm words of praise for his partner on the court. "Jordan is such a great competitor - he's a fighter and that's always good to have on the court with you. I'm enjoying his company on the court and off the court and things are going really well."
With the Australian Open in mind, Hutchins wanted to arrive in Melbourne with plenty of wins under his belt, and that's exactly what he and Kerr have got. "It's very important to do well at tournaments like this one, but the Australian Open is always at the back of your mind. Every tennis player wants to do well at the Grand Slams and it would be fantastic if we could get a win tomorrow and then take that form and positive mindset into the Australian Open." The pair will face top seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the final.
* At least there should be no pressure on Ross & Jordan, so they can have a good crack at it!

Looks like Kerr was onto a winner from the start in that match.
Two breaks gave Nestor/Zimonic the 1st set 6-3 but Hutch/Kerr have just broken to lead *3-2 in the 2nd after Zimonjic double-faulted on the deciding point.

Hutch & Huss got broken back but broke again at 5-5 and are now serving for the 2nd set at 3-6 *6-5
Is this a trial for the new World Cup substitution proposal?
I kept telling myself not to write that, but trying to post fast in between sorting out pick 'em mailing lists (773 emails just sent ... eek!), I came unstuck.

* Rankings question: they've picked up 150 points apiece for their valiant efforts. Was Ross defending anything this week?
No, so the 150 points will replace his "18th best" score of 35 points taking him to 1485 points. In the current rankings 1485 points would be 46th place in the rankings.
In the Australian Open he will be defending 90 points from last year's L32 appearance.
