Well done Laura and Cav, would have settled for 2 out of 3 but sorry obviously still for Mel.
For all outr moaning about Wickmayer, I love Cav's attitude, the 40 points thing of copurse helps that. Hey, I've come, I've collected 40 points, it's a great match for me and all the pressures on you now, lady
Haven't seen Krajicek since she had a good Wimbledon but I hope the comments about her decline are right. I would love Laura to qualify but wouldn't rate her chances against the Krajicek I've watched. I know she beat Martinez-Sanchez last week and MS is higher ranked than MK ever was but I would rate the Krajicek I've seen a lot more than the Martinez-Sanchez I've seen.
I wish you were right about Mel but I have my worries.
Mel was never in this match apart from a brief rally midway through the first set.
Cav was most certainly the player of the day as I for one wrote off her chances after the first set. She can't have won many matches in her senior career from one set down.
Laura also won a three set match without playing her best which was also very encouraging.
The bookies odds for tonight give Cav a 10% chance of victory and Laura a 45% chance. Probably about right but hopefully Laura with less pressure tonight can get the victory.
Good grinding wins for both. Playing nowhere near their best tennis but hung in there and got the W. If it was windy then it's understandable.
Laura does indeed have a pretty good chance at taking the match, I do hope that people just chill on the expectations though. Yes she did beat MJMS playing great tennis but a hopman cup exhibition is completely different to a Grand Slam quali round so we'll see. If she loses I hope that people don't start hating on her and calling her crap in the way they were last year.
And as for Naomi, to say this is a tough match is an understatement. But out of all the non-Junior brits, if there is one brit that I would give the best chance in this match, it would be Naomi. She just needs to get that serve working and just really take it to Wickmayer. And i'm sure she will. GO GO GO GO GO GO NAOMI!

Mel's website says she's off to the US now, so I presume she'll be doing a few of the hardcourt 25ks and hopefully Midland too - hopefully that'll be a good way to regain some confidence. I'm sure she'll be back on top soon.
Well done to Naomi and Laura. Wickmayer's first-round tussle will probably not have done Naomi any favours, as top players who have a fright usually are strengthened for the subsequent rounds - I like Naomi's attitude though.
After being plagued by injuries since her early breakthrough Krajicek is just beginning to show signs of recapturing form, with two wins over top 100 players already this year - so if either Laura or Naomi progress they will have done very well.
She had an awful knee injury in 08 (she reached the Wimbledon QF, of course) and she hasn't been the same. She has showed glimpses of good form in parts of last year and she does look encouraging this year. Only time will tell.
