Yes, everyone, pick yourselves up off the floor, it's true. Such shock news - NOT - and as we have discussed on the forum previously we seem to generally feel absolutely right for various reasons.
Definately the right decision until GB put themselves in a position to get back into the World Group playoffs.
At the moment I'd say: Ward, Evans and Flemski looks to be odds on as the team.
Flemski should be a cert for the doubles rubber which is always a boost and talented as he is, either Ward or Evans should be able to take Berankis and both should beat their no 2.
Having said that.....the Polish tie looked like a shoe-in once Kubot withdrew
Andy was never realistically going to play this tie and it would have been foolish for him to do so really, especially considering that we shouldn't have too much trouble in winning this tie.
You'd hope that Flemski should win their doubles rubber while even if Berankis does win both him matches, we should be able to beat their number two twice and that will enable us to get the win.
At this level there is no need for Andy to play and with him not playing it will force our other players to gain experience of playing Davis Cup matches and hopefully getting some wins so when we get promoted we have someone who is able to be an effective number two to Andy.
i assume its between Jamie, Wardy and Evo for the singles with both Boggo & Josh out of favour (after all how could you drop someone from a AEGON contract then 2 months later pick them to play for the country)
i doubt Boggo will lose much sleep over it, he's planning on playing Cherbourg Challenger then heading to IW for the qualies anyway. Whilst he'd still like to play DC if the opportunity arose i think he realises that unless there is a chance of captaincy his chances are slim. I feel sorry for Josh though as really he only got 1 chance and has been dropped on the back of it. However he's always been outspoken and sometimes you feel that grants him no favours with LTA etc.
