Week 52 - Futures F34 ($15K+H) - São Paulo, Brazil

After celebrating Christmas Brazilian-style, I assume, Slabba is our lone representative in ITF/Futures events again this week.

L32: Alex Slabinsky WR 662 v Qualifier

Winner likely to play (6) Rogelio Dutra da Silva (BRA) WR 319.

Btw, if you're wondering what happened to Brazil F33, it was due to be played last week at the same time as F32 but got cancelled.

L32: Alex Slabinsky WR 659 v (Q) Edesio Semencato (BRA) WR 1026 c. 14.00 GMT on Court 2

Semencato (no, don't even go there! wink) broke into the top 1000 for a short time in the autumn. He beat Sean Thornley 7-6(6) 7-6(2) in a junior event in 2006. but has never played a Brit before.

Slabba won 7-6, 6-3

Another ranking point but don't hold out too much hope for the next match. He plays the 6th seed who's ranked 319 and won 6-1, 6-1 in rd1

L16: Alex Slabinsky WR 659 v (6) Rogerio Dutra da Silva (BRA) WR 317

The Brazilian hit a career high of 191 in August soon after beating Josh Goodall in 3 sets in the Belo Horizonte Challenger but has dropped back a bit since then. Like Sheddie, I don't fancy Slabba's chances but it would be nice to be proved wrong!

Slabba is in the doubles final again with Guillermo Alcaide.

Obviously singles is the main goal but these doubles finals will go a small way to paying for the trip.

I hope Slabba has a good night's rest.  He appears 3 times on OOPs for Sunday.

On the Challenger OOP he has his Q2 following on Center Court after the Futures Singles Final with potentially later in the day a Q3 tie 4th on the same court "after suitable rest" and the Futures OOP has him playing his futures doubles final "after rest, Time TBA"  at some unknown time after the Futures Singles Final.

Think that's bad.  I just realised that his doubles partner is down for a theoretical 4 matches !!!   Alcaide is in the futures singles final, the futures doubles final, and is on the OOP for his delayed Challenger Q1 and potential Challenger Q2.  I'm guessing that they wouldn't actually make him play 4 matches if he wins Q1 eyepopping.gif.  A potential 3 seems a bit OTT for either of them.

I think Alcaide may need to be bringing in reinforcements  wink.gif

Anyway, hope Slabba does win Q2 and then they can work out where they go from there.  He does though need to win Q3, the final qualifying round, to win any ranking points ( would win 5 ) and he's defending 13 points from this coming week last year, so he could do without being knackered going into any Q3 !

One last update needed for Steven's winners list:

Doubles Final
ALCAIDE (ESP) / SLABINSKY (GBR) (4) defeated AMADO (ARG) / GRILLI (BRA) (2) 6-1 6-1 winner.gif

Edit: I think this is the second time in three seasons that Slabba has won the last match of the professional tennis season.

Thanks, added. I think we'd better count that as a 2009 week 52 win even though he won the title in 2010!
