RE: Week 1: (ITF) $50k Quanzhou, China (Hard)

That makes it sixteen wins in a row which equals Tim Henman's record, though I believe 19 is the longest by a GB player.

An impressive win, coming from behind, which has been her achilles heel in the past. Krunic didn't impress me much when I saw her in the Junior Italian Open final last year, but juniors are always liable to improve dramatically at some point - let's hope it is not now.

Sadly, Naomi's streak came down with a bang today against a player who lost to Stephanie Cornish at Junior Wimbledon last year and must have improved a lot since then!

L16: Naomi Broady WR 298 lost to Aleksandra Krunic (SRB) WR 571 by 5 & 0 bleh

... but a streak of 16 is still mighty impressive!

Oh that's a bit of a shock, I didn't see that one coming, and the second set is rather disturbing.

Maybe though, as David pointed out is always possible with junior players, Krunic has indeed made massive strides forward recently.  She did decisively beat a top 300 player in October last year on the way to winning one of her two 10K titles last year and only played any senior events ( all but one being 10Ks ) after Wimbledon.

And, yes, one can only salute Naomi on the magnificent run of victories she has had since her return.

I hope there is a reason for this because this is just inexplicable. Krunic is useful but no world beater. Hopefully she just got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning.

Lol, no. I've seen Alex quite a few times and she is great. She has a great future ahead of her and to be honest I was kind of expecting the match to go in the way it did. Although the bagel was a bit much, I don't think Naomi has too much to worry about. She's doing well, Alex is just gonna be a great player in the future IMO. Serbia has some great young prospects to join Ana and Jelena at the top of the Womens' game.

Krunic is into the final, so it was clearly not as bad as it first seemed! It appears she has indeed improved a lot.

Krunic ended up winning the whole thing.

After beating Naomi, she easily beat the no 5 seed in the quarters, beat her fellow Serb top seed Jovanovski ( WR 150 ) in three close sets in the semis and finally beat the Chinese no 8 seed in the final  6 - 3  7 - 5.

This title by itself will leap her more than 200 places in the rankings to inside the top 350.

So by far the best senior tournament of her career, and at least puts her win against Naomi into a much better context.
